*** minor spoilers? ***

This movie rehashes the first Pokémon season(s), more or less, but instead of a fresh start, it feels like a repeat performance with slight tweaks – like one of those recap episodes in the middle of a season. The plot is disjointed. Knowing how amazing characters the first seasons of the TV show had, these ones here and the relationships they try to create with the main character, feel very weak and underdeveloped – not to mention incredibly rushed.

Also, I cringed at talking Pikachu.

So many parallels to the original Pokémon movie, but not making any of it better.

I hear there’s going to ...

If you like Pokemon, you’re bound to like this on some level. The episodes focus on either Pokemon (like the Pichu brothers and their friends in the Big City), or Misty, Brock, Tracey, Ritchie, Cassidy & Butch, to name a few.

As in the original series, there are stronger and weaker episodes. Especially the “Legend of Thunder” trilogy was a strong start.

The art was pretty good, the sounds and stories the usual Pokemon-style and quality you might expect. It was a nice, refreshing change to turn the focus onto other trainers for a bit (plus they had some important tie-in stories there as well, linking back ...

I prefer the manga. The drawing in the anime isn't that good, and I wasn't impressed with the voice-work, either. The plot is the same familiar one as in the manga - though with lesser details, of course. A nice watch, sure, but nothing to be impressed about. (Then again, I think the manga is brilliant, so it is rather hard to beat that :D)

I'm not overly familiar with Punisher's character, but I would say he brought a lot of darkness into this film: the action had more violence to it than usual, although it was still kept mostly off-screen for the sake of this title being aimed at a younger generation.

While the story was entertaining, I wasn't overly fond of Black Widow's portrayal in this one. Her being one of the titular characters, that was a real downer for me, personally - not to speak of the somewhat unconventional, unnecessary romantic element that should have worked, but felt a little flat and one-dimensional despite the life they tried ...

The movie started so amazingly well, with the characters, art and all.

But the end? The last third of the movie was a mess. Things weren't explained, at all, and it felt like they decided incoherent was better than giving the movie another half an hour to properly execute the final scenes. I'm so disappointed they would let a perfectly good film go to waste like that.

All in all, I enjoyed Iron Man and War Machine, Black Widow and Hawkeye teaming up to take down Iron Man, and even the Punisher, although I only know the guy by name.

With a little (or, a lot) of polishing ...

It's been a while since I've watched anime (and yaoi, for that matter). As such, I can't really compare this to any other series/OVA, but here are a few thoughts circling in my mind:

Either the Japanese concept of consent is very different from what I have learned, or they just showcase it this way in fiction (I remember this has bugged me a little before, too); a common trait in this series seemed to be the uke rejecting the seme, for whatever reason - especially the physical, sexual advances - even after love confessions had been uttered and they were in a relationship, which seemed ...

The Pokémon franchise has the track record of playing the amnesiac game whenever a new season starts on TV, but so far the movies have done a good job of remembering their facts. Not this time: Ash has actually met Mewtwo twice by now, in two separate movies, but unless there are two Mewtwos that were created in Team Rocket labs, Ash has no recollection of meeting this one - nor does the sex-changed-Mewtwo recall meeting Ash and learning some valuable lessons of humanity and acceptance.

That aside, this movie is a somewhat touching tale of a group of revived Pokémon, Genesect, who are brought to ...

This movie was nothing surprising on the Pokemon front: Ash, Iris and Cilan get caught up in another adventure, this time with a new Pokemon called Keldeo - whose interrupted battle with a powerful dragon-type Kyurem has put Keldeo's friends at risk.

After a somewhat slow beginning with Keldeo desperately trying to prove itself, the story picked up and rolled steadily all the way to the end. The story itself wan't surprising, with Ash encouraging Keldeo to face its fears and the eventual conclusion which really shouldn't surprise anyone in this concept.

Team Rocket didn't get featured (other than in a blink-and-miss shots irrelevant to the movie ...

Ah, Iron Man! There's never enough of you.

I viewed the English version, although I'm interested in the Japanese version (mostly because in the aftermath of Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark, Adrian Pasdar sounded off for all his efforts).

Tony Stark sets his sights on Japan in search for clean energy, ready to retire Iron Man, but things are never so easy for a superhero, now are they? Faced with a new group of enemies - calling themselves the Zodiac - and unlikely allies, he tries to win over the people of Japan and save himself, his company and the world in the process.

The art and ...

Death Note (Anime) add
When I finished reading the manga of the same name, I had mixed feelings about it; the story was different and definitely thrilling, the art beautiful, but the story progressed slowly.

The anime fixed any problems regarding that.

There is nothing new to the story, compared to manga. The story remains the same, although there are some small pieces missing. A notebook falls from the shinigami world, picked up by Light Yagami - a bored, intelligent young man who seizes this opportunity with minimal hesitation. Write down a person's name and they will die. Get more elaborate, and the death shall follow instructions if possible. Throw in ...
