Juuni Taisen (Anime) add
The Short:
Juuni Taisen does some great character work, has outstanding moments of high quality animation, and is only 12 episodes long. If you're looking for a short action show to binge or drop in on from time to time you could do worse.

The Long:
When I started watching Juuni Taisen (JT), I wasn't really that into it. I figured I'd be dropping it in a couple of episodes, but each of the first few were just interesting enough to make me come back for the next one. About half way in I found myself legitimately invested in several of the characters, and legitimately ...

Berserk (Anime) add
Preliminary (10/12 eps)
Lets discuss things that aren't the animation, which is terrible, but everyone's already said that. Whats more offensive is their handling of the actual material. Even at the ten episode mark, the show has already taken extreme liberties with the stories it does include, and it skips the Lost Children arc entirely. What remains has been butchered beyond recognition, as they rework, reorganize, and repurpose to try and condense volumes of content into handfuls of episodes. Its fair to say that things what work in manga form don't always work in an anime, and therefore to rework some content is not only permissible, but in ...

One Punch Man (Anime) add
It took me a while to get into One Punch Man, mostly because I thought it was just a comedy-show that had a one-off one-punch joke. Much to my delight, however, I was mistaken.

One Punch Man is indeed about a superhero, Saitama, who is so strong that he can run as fast as a speeding automobile, dodge projectiles, jump so far he practically flies, and can defeat any enemy in a single punch; much to his dismay. He wants nothing more to be a hero, and draws no greater joy than the thrill of the struggle of life-or-death combat in the name of justice ...

Haikyuu!! (Anime) add
Why am I watching a cartoon about volley ball?
Some explain to me why I'm ENJOYING a show about volley ball!
-but I am. There's no doubt.

Haikyuu!! excels at two things: making it's characters feel like people, and showcasing surprisingly intense matches of volley ball. It's just dramatic enough for you to care about the players, but it's melodrama is kept in check by having them actually have to try, and train, and sweat, and run themselves raw trying to get better, but then actually getting better. They neither consistently fail nor perpetually win, as is the case in so many sports shows. Their ...

Gyo (Anime) add
Mixed Feelings
I'll go ahead and confess to having never read the manga, and admiring that I have no intention to do so.
Going into Gyo blind, I was very excited. It started off strongly enough too. A bit cliche, but honestly it had a lot of cliches I hadn't felt in a while; almost like I was watching a horror movie from the turn of the millennium, and I think that familiar tone blinded me a little bit as the movie began. It's quite pretty too. It walks that line of pesudo-realism that I generally enjoy, and the monsters themselves are disgusting and terrifying in all ...

Howl's Moving Castle is probably my least favorite of all the Ghibli films.
It's story's good, in particular the backdrop is super interesting. However, the peek we get into it is almost trivial in scale, and compared to most of the studio's works, Howl's Moving Castle is fairly predictable in terms of plot. Not that Ghibli known for super layered plots and a having a million twists, but Howl's is about as by-the-numbers as they get. Strangely, I don't know if I could put my finger on any one thing that put me off, but my attitude towards the film after finishing was, "Okay," and ...
