God, what a catastrophe!

I've seen some not-so-great isekais, but this takes the cake... The chara design is really ugly, the characters as stereotypical as possible, the plot as devoid of adventure as ever, the fan service completely forced, the ultra-powerful character destroys all interest in the fights and the only theme of the anime by making him super handsome, and so on and so forth.

Really, this anime consists of one long, embarrassing eulogy for its protagonist, once he's gone from unsociable obese to ultra-sociable handsome, THAT'S IT! And at this level, I don't see what interest there is in it...

When I read the manga I already found this work frankly annoying, but rediscovering it through this anime I realize that it's a real waste of potential.

What I really don't like about it is the humor, which is really badly handled. The gags are really repetitive, badly paced and sometimes you don't even get where the joke is. The most annoying thing is the habit of having Mash do something grotesque, and then having a character who's observing him point out how grotesque it is by describing precisely what he's just done. For example, let's say Mash breaks down a door as he enters a ... room, well, the person who was in the room will say "Am I hallucinating, or did he just destroy that door?!", and that's what happens ALL THE TIME!


And as much as it's annoying as usual, it's unbearable when this mania for messing up gags spoils the anime's few good ideas. Seriously, we've got characters with stories and developments in line with those of Mash or another character with whom he's in opposition, which could be really interesting except that no, the anime doesn't give a damn since it annihilates all that by making lots of gags about Mash...
What's more, it completely annihilates the interest of the fights, since Mash's super-power means he has no trouble beating his opponents, which means we're never worried about him and we're never involved, which is where these gags become really harmful to the rest of the work.


So, in the end, it's not a catastrophic anime, contrary to what you might think if you read my opinion, but despite these (and above all THIS major flaw) it's still quite fun to watch (hence my 6), you don't get bored, some of the jokes hit the mark and some of the developments aren't spoiled by very heavy-handed humor. In that case, I don't really know if I should recommend it or not, since it all depends on whether or not the humor and the protagonist bother you as much as they do me, it's up to you.

In fact, this OVA is, like this anime, rather boring.

I completely understand that this universe and these characters can be so appreciated by the public, but personally I found this part rather slow and frankly the pace suffers quite a bit since the events take far too long to move forward for my taste, to the point where we quickly lose interest in what's going on.
Admittedly, there are some twists in the plot and some battles, but they're clearly not well-paced, animated or narrated enough to get me back into the story. From the very first episodes, I was hooked and never managed to get ... back into it (especially as the twists come out of nowhere, if you ask me).

In short, discovering these old Saint Seiya series makes me realize that Toei's bad habits don't date from yesterday, but from much longer ago.

Unique in its kind is I think the best qualifier of this anime.


One of the strongest points is the animation which, despite being 26 years old, is still fluid and dynamic. Frankly, I take my hat off to the animation for remaining pleasant to the eye despite the passage of time.

The plot is also a strong point of Tenkuu no Escaflowne. Although quite complex at times, especially in the second part, it remains very pleasant to follow and once again unique with lots of twists and turns and political schemes (strategies) that make us always get caught up in it and we can't wait to ... see what happens next. I will regret a rather precipitated end, it remains really touching and melancholic but its faster and condensed rhythm is quite at odds with the impeccable rhythm that took its time throughout.

Nevertheless, this doesn't prevent it from having quite sharp themes. We find at the top of the list violence and its usefulness, which may seem niet in its purpose but which for me is fair enough although utopian because it never ignores the harsh reality of the thing and of conflicts in general, but on the other hand it proposes a utopian vision and values that are quite important even so long after. Because in the end a utopian vision is far from being vain when it is well approached. In the same way, the theme of love and the importance of confessing it and differentiating it from a superficial attraction is frankly interesting.

Finally, the characters are terribly endearing and brilliantly written, full of complete relationships and internal conflicts that make them quite complex. I'm not sure if it's a good book or not, but I'm sure it's a good book, and I'm not sure if it's a good book or not, but I'm sure it's a good book.

In short, it's an isekai mixed with mecha and heroic fantasy, a cocktail that is as unique to watch as it is to hear. But this atypical aspect is far from being a problem, on the contrary, it is what makes it stand out for the spectators and allows them to live a real experience.

Honestly what a pleasure this second season is!

I wasn't really impatient after the end of the first season and the beginning of this one. Indeed, we had entered a certain routine of travel and stagnation of the characters (not a bad thing in itself but it bored me).

However, the second part of the season takes a much more interesting trend with the return of old characters who bring two really touching episodes that lead Rudeus towards a real evolution in maturity and that put him in front of the real danger of the world to confront him with his responsibilities, a real shock on this ... character and that allow to make him FINALLY more interesting. In addition, we get another link to his previous life and the trauma that came with it, so we learn more about him and see a real impact of that previous life on his current development as well as delivering a fairly realistic portrayal of the effects of bullying on people.

In addition, there is a nice development of the secondary characters who move on to a new phase in their evolution, notably Eris who is confronted with her own weaknesses and limitations (causing her to weaken her bond with Rudeus), a questioning that offers a very touching last episode. All of this allows a kind of passage to adulthood for our characters whose childhood and adolescence we explored in these first two seasons.

The plot has also reached another stage, where Rudeus finds himself far from his usual over-power and therefore from the model of the basic isekai hero. And now that he is confronted with something stronger than him (also a symbol of his responsibilities which are far too heavy for his small shoulders) and with a danger of a higher level, we are entitled to much more impactful adventures and dangers and WHAT a danger. The appearance of the antagonists is really chilling and offers some real drama that I found a little too quickly dispatched in the first season (often overdramatized) but which here has the time to develop and therefore to be more striking. The second half of the show is very emotional and very striking because of the stakes and the drama. It's the first time that this show has managed to do that (thanks to the development of a season and a half). All this is served by a very good direction and animation which serve very well to the immersion and which allow, thanks to the camera and colour games, to reinforce the impact of the situations.

In short, this season is a nice surprise that brings the impact that was missing in this anime and that ends the setting of the universe and the plot (and therefore of childhood). I can't wait to see season 3 which promises to bring even more than this season and continue on this path.

I admit I was quite disappointed with the beginning of this new season of Kimetsu, the fact of redoing the Infinity Train arc was quite a pity (and mostly present to surf on the success of the movie) and thus seeing again what I had already seen lowered my hype more than anything else.

That being said, and the disappointment of the beginning of the season behind us, this arc has reconciled me with the series.

We find antagonists that fit the characters; notably the "real" villain who transmits a vision of a future where Tanjro loses hope by sinking into hatred with his sister, all ... this in connection with the previous antagonist who showed him a utopian past whose non-existence we must accept.

In the same way, we see in a more obvious way the nindo of the demons who advocate transhumanism, with the loss of all human weaknesses (emotions, stamina, etc...); coming in direct opposition to the defenders who advocate their humanity and their weaknesses, seeking above all to remain human.

In short, we have a good thematic connection allowing the story to stay on a classic but quite pleasant path with a qualitative aesthetic. In conclusion, this was a very pleasant arc to see although not as exceptional as one might think (because it doesn't reinvent anything).

It's quite complicated to talk about Deep Insanity as it is so uneven.

Indeed we find a very complex scenario but once it is finished it makes sense. Sometimes it's even too complex and tries to make things confusing where they don't need to be, but the scenario remains relatively readable and not unpleasant to follow.

In the same way we have interesting characters to see evolve and develop, especially one whose name I won't mention to keep the surprise for those who haven't seen the anime. But here again the development of the characters is only interesting when it's set up, once that's done everything is ... stopped and the characters stagnate in their permanent status quo spoiling some potential in them, yet developing the heroic thirst of the hero in this world totally hostile to this kind of dream in connection with the past of another character of the group would have been very interesting for example (the anime even promises us this way in the first episodes) but no, we stop at this promise. And it's the case with all the characters, it's really a shame...

The aesthetics is the big black spot of the series, with a great lack of dynamism in the staging of the action scenes and the strong moments (especially the climax which is a complete failure as it falls like a bellows) and it spoils a lot of good ideas of the scenario already well annihilated by its timidity to propose more.

In short, an anime that is not as catastrophic as my review suggests, it can be watched without too many problems but this potential spoiled by a sudden stop of the writing bothers me a lot and gives it barely the average on my side.

Well, I don't think many people will read this (especially since the anime is not very well known) but that's ok.

Don, Joran Princess of snow and Blood started very badly for me, I found the visual style original but rather rigid, the story and the characters were very soft and the OST forgettable, so much so that I was going to give it a 5 after the first 4 episodes.

But you read correctly I gave it a 7, so why that?

The answer is simple, from episode 5 Joran takes off. The sluggish pace and the uninteresting plot makes sense as a prologue to what comes ... next and this sequel hooked me much more. Indeed this last one comes much more touched the emotions of the spectator and especially to put the characters in front of their responsibility, allowing really touching moments and especially which will involve us in the history because the characters will appear more human to us, since indeed at the beginning of the anime the characters seemed little expressive and without emotions what is not the best way to cling to them, but thereafter it is much more the case.

Moreover the anime comes to deliver a very nice statement about violence and what it generates, as for example the idea that once engaged on the way of blood no more happiness will be possible and no escape will be allowed, which will lead to many moments rather pessimistic from the work but still in accordance with what it seeks to inspire. It does not fall into the silly moralizing and keeps this idea of no choice in the idea of diving into this way because it is above all a system that pushes to its extremes and there the anime does not hesitate to push the reflection to the revolt of the people on a totalitarian state in addition to the individual himself with our characters to whom it happens things hard enough.

Finally the visuals are improving with a real magnificent scene in the last episode, where the atypical graphic style of the work is completely used. We can still reproach some scenaristic elements out of nowhere on the last episodes as well as a certain lack of subtlety of the subject at the end but it remains on the whole very pleasant to follow.

In short, Joran is a good anime with some gaps and where it is maybe quite complicated to dive in but it is worth it, sincerely.
