I am not a huge fan of the mystery genre, but what mysteries I have seen, I usually enjoy. Ranp Kitan: Game of Laplace is no different. While everyone seems to be willing to rip this anime to shreds, I believe that it is the type of anime that everyone should at least watch once. You won't come out of it confused or feeling like you wasted time; it's one of those anime that whether you think its lacking or rich, you won't regret watching it.
The anime starts off very interestingly, somewhat reminiscent of Psycho-Pass, with unusual murders, missing persons, and abnormal characters such as

Shadow Man. I was drawn in within the first 3 episodes with the need to learn more. Kobayashi is our main character, a young, bored little androgynous boy who finds enjoyment out of life in mysteries. I enjoyed watching the mysteries unfold and seeing how the characters figured out the murderers. It's not exactly Sherlock Holmes, but you'll be racking your brain for a bit.
The main idea of the anime is to introduce to you several persons who have committed heinous crimes, and then they present the idea that these criminals get off easy due to the insanity plea. Sound familiar, anyone? It reminds me a lot of what is wrong with our own justice system as the story seems to be criticizing the Japanese justice system for making it easy for criminals. After this idea is introduced to the audience, the anime follows other vigilantes until we get to the main part of the plot.
The climax of the plot is not all that exciting. They try to put a plot twist inside and then explain the incidents that led up to the present, which adds some depth to the characters, but isn't imperative. The ending isn't all that grand either. It was disappointing to say the least, but I can't deny that I did thoroughly enjoy this anime, which everyone seems to vehemently deny in their reviews.
My favorite part of the anime is the overall idea behind it: the justice system is a flawed system, but again, it's nothing new. Even the video game Phoenix Wright toys with this idea. It was just interesting to see everything fall into a state of anarchy similar to Psycho-Pass. My favorite character has to be Kobayashi who really just cracks me up with his silly antics and unusual behavior. Sometimes I find myself wondering if he truly is a boy. I would have liked to learn more about him, truth be told, because while I understand that he's a brilliant young boy who's bored with the world, I'd like to know what exactly caused that. There needs to be more character development!!!
Anyway, here's my two cents. Just wanted to say that this anime isn't the worst anime in the world; it's actually worth watching.

OK I am glad I happened to watch this before looking at reviews (because we all know how that can go). This anime is supposed to be about a magical war, but really, you don't go into it know anything about what's going on and when you finish, you know even less.
There are odd explanations throughout the series which are more like information dumps but about what? Uh, good question. They're for characters you don't know well and didn't realize things were going on in the background. Uh...?
I actually did enjoy the anime. I had questions and kept watching to see if they got answered

but the ending of the anime left me annoyed. Not only is it a cliffhanger, it's a poorly crafted one at that. I was constantly left wanting more in this anime, but the cliffhanger was worse than the one for Zombie Loan (which was pretty bad) or High School of the Dead (which can't be faulted anyway since the manga was on hiatus). You're left in the middle of a random time skip. Did I say middle? I meant the beginning of one and yeah, don't know why it happened but guess I won't find out anything at this rate.
Also, unless the translator in the last episode made a mistake or something, I was confused as to Kazuma's relationship with the mother. He called her mom...? Please tell me that's an error!
Anyway, I can say I did enjoy the anime because I like a little drama especially when it comes to a love triangle, but there are a lot of holes in this anime and if it doesn't get a 2nd season, they'll just be left like that.

On a Japanese poll, this anime ranked higher than Shoukugeki no Soma at #1.

Beats the hell out of me.
JK Meshi! first appealed to me since I figured it'd be about cooking. If you're a super lazy fuck who can only microwave pizza, maybe this is a cooking anime for you. If you want to learn how to boil an egg, that may be a bit too complicated for this anime.

The "comedy" is nothing short of the girls randomly talking about different subjects from agriculture to government and history, which is really weird because then they just say they're hungry and go on to make something. So yeah, can't say it's funny at all.
I also want to say that I have a hard time believing that the short haired girl is anywhere near the same age considering how she dresses and looks. Ummmm really? Anyway, I don't recommend the anime.

I loved the video game. The game had character, depth, and many exciting moments. This anime took all of the aspects of the game including the truth bullets, trial, and investigations, and condensed them into a quick episode for each trial that did no justice to any of the murder mysteries. I get that you just cannot put that much information into a short anime, but to butcher the plot and detective aspect of the story...it's just too disappointing. You cannot really get to know the characters at all like this, especially when it comes to the first death. It was too rushed; too many

things left out. I don't mind the minor changes; that is expected, but there was more focus on the deaths and the trial than the actual characters. It's like taking Battle Royale the novel and turning it into the movie. It just becomes mindless killing.
Overall, this anime was not really enjoyable. It felt too rushed and there was no way to really get to know the characters at all. You just kind of jumped straight into what aspect was important to the trial and that was it. It was frustrating. Still, the animation holds true to the video games, which I enjoyed, and for the most part, everything was very much the same it's just stripped down too much to be anything but mindless killing.

I tried to like this anime. I really did. I was so excited when they announced the Special A anime because I had been following the manga for so long. This manga has a lot of memories for me and I know that anime tend to add new things, take things out, and change up the story a little to meet the limitations of the time constraints, but it was just impossible for me to love this anime.

The characters have a few note features that are from the manga, but it feels like they took out a lot of core elements to the characters and added whatever they wanted to fit. I have such an issue with the change in character stories as well. Was it necessary to give Kei a stupid background story for why he wanted Hikari's bento? Couldn't it just be that he wanted to eat her cooking? That's simple as it is and very sweet; perfect for a romcom, but no, let's make it less romantic and more childish. Oh, and another thing, Kei's personality just isn't right. It feels completely off the entire time. Instead of cool and collected, Kei just seems a little pompous--or maybe that's just the voice actor who plays him. I just feel like he lost a lot of his appeal as a male love interest. Hikari just seems kind of innocent, which is fine, but she lost a lot of other traits that made her so distinct as a main character.
I know a lot of things are changed for comedic effect or drama to keep the audience on their toes, but the manga's story was a lot funnier and the drama that does happen in the manga really hits you deep. This anime failed to execute any of it properly.
Maybe if I hadn't absolutely loved the manga, I would have enjoyed myself, but maybe I would have complained about the generic characters and lack of originality. Either way, I am not happy with this anime.

OK, I have been a fan of this manga for a long time, even so much so that I had help in the translation of the manga when it first came out, so I was excited to see the OVA. I remember when I first watched Honey x Honey Drops as an OVA (before reading the manga) and it was just smut, but after reading the manga I realized that's how it played out at first lol.

doesn't even explain Tsubaki's talents as a hair stylist, old fashioned feelings, or the challenge going on between her and Kyouta, but it skips right to the first real climax of the series. Alright...I want to complain, but the anime at least held true to the actual manga regardless of what is skipped. Even the second episode is fairly consistent with the manga and done fairly well.
I loved the manga. This OVA is OK in my book compared to the other one I just watched. I don't love it, but if you've read the manga, it may be worth looking at, but overall, it's not a must see. It's a shame they don't do a proper anime for this manga. It would be a very sweet shoujo series, especially since this manga by Minami Kanan is strangely the least smutty LOL

Yes, I get that it is an honor to have your work turned into an anime, but really, Go-sensei should have been more strict with what was done with her manga.
They took an adorable manga and clipped it into an OVA that's completely disjointed in plot and incapable of being enjoyed seeing as you do not understand who any of the characters are.
The artwork is still true of Go-sensei's manga, which I gave the series points for. It's still beautiful when it has to be and chibi/silly where it should be. The animation itself seems cheap and lazy though, which is frustrating, but I guess

it' just an OVA.
The inclusion of episode 2 seems really weird to me considering it is following some sort of plot, and even references parts of a plot we do not see, but it is a good way to get to know the characters. I liked episode 2 way better than the first, but again, it's a little disjointed in plot, but at least you get a better feel for the actual series.
My advice? Read the manga. You'll have spent your time better.

Before you go on to read this review, make not that I have not watched the 2nd season and these were my initial impressions. I gave this anime a shot since all of the reviews rated it fairly well. I heard it'd be a harem anime with realistic events and drama, but truly, I wasn't prepared for what I actually experienced.
Let me be frank, I like harem anime: reverse or not, they're all fairly fun and I understand the flaws in harem anime. While this does not have the ridiculous situations of your usual harem anime, I don't exactly agree that all of these events

and relationships are possible. There are a lot of girls with no real reason as to why they like the main character aside from his own relationship with Yuki. How often does that happen? I get forbidden fruit is full of temptation, but really, this is too instantaneous.
Considering Touya's personality, I would put him on par with School Day's Makoto or Claymore's Raki. What exactly does that mean? I think he's an annoying, sniveling coward who has no morals and grates on my last nerves, though I suppose the other reviewers deny that. Maybe I'm one of the few who took offense, but I do have to say, it takes a great writer to create a plot in which one can be so angered by a character. Touya is not without his good traits, though since he does help out a lot of the girls, but he's so damned shady all of the time, I wonder why none of them get suspicious.
I didn't really much care for Yuki. She is the central idea in Touya's mind, but really, I feel like she takes a backseat to pretty much everyone else. She's usually in scenes showing her calling fruitlessly for Touya while he lives his life. While I do think she's sweet, she is your generic helpless heroine who cries a lot and really doesn't seem to have anything outside of her idol life and Touya to talk about.
There are various other females as well who actually do have their own pasts with Touya, but they are explained in the most shallow sense. I felt like there was too much plot dumping in some instances, where the writers were being too coy and when it came time for them to add a large part to the plot, they just kind of revealed it without tact, yet still, there wasn't too much explained about other aspects to the plot that I would have preferred answered, though I suppose the 2nd season will hopefully solve those mysteries for me.
For an anime about music, there isn't really any good music to boast about. I kind of like the opening, but it doesn't stand out as far as anime openings go. There's a few instances of singing in the anime like other idol anime, but nothing that really catches your attention.
I find that I did have a lot of complaints about the anime, but in truth, I kind of enjoyed watching it. It didn't really seem to get me excited like other dramas might or even make me cry, but the anime did a good job getting my emotions fired up, which is good I suppose. I hope to see more character development in the 2nd season as well as some more depth to the characters. This anime has a lot going for it and I suppose I just need to give it more time to fully blossom because I can see it becoming a great drama, although I would prefer a better protagonist.

Let me be honest, I enjoyed this anime. Wait right there! I am not done yet. I completely agree with other reviewers, this anime is not a good one. Not at all, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its appeal. I want to say the male characters are all the yandere type, but they don't really seem to care about the protagonist at all. She's basically food to them. They are aggressive, verbally abusive, and deplorable. I enjoy kabe-don and aggressive guys. I won't lie, my heart jumped when I saw the first few episodes. I've read a lot of smut out there and you know what? Rape or forcing yourself on a girl is apparently a big thing, so yeah, I can't be mad at this anime for providing Japanese girls/women with the excitement that they like. Hell, I'll take it from time to time.
However, after you get into this for a while, you notice how thin the plot line is. There's barely a plot. I watched all 12 episodes and the parts with "action" don't really make sense to me and it's resolved rather quickly. Yeah, I think this anime is about the fan service.
Everyone gets mad that this anime is about a bunch of vampires that violate the protagonist over and over. Well, you know what? Brother's Conflict is like that too, without all of the sex sounds (i.e. slurping blood). They're vampires so I assume it's supposed to appeal to the inner pervert in women. Like it or not, there's a market out there for it. Especially if you're sexually frustrated.
Anyway, the characters are more or less....shallow? You get a small glimpse into what makes some of them tick, but not entirely. There is so much hate amongst them all. I think there's a shota in this anime (which doesn't make sense since they're triplets...How did one manage to stay tiny?) and he just terrifies me. He's the most violent of them all. The megane character is just plain annoying. He yells at the main character for everything from bad table manners (even though all of his brothers just left the table or were entirely rude) and breaking something after he did something to her. What the hell is that? This is like the opposite of brother's conflict: everyone hates everyone else and is violent and mean to the main character.
The artwork? Well, that's pretty much where this anime excels. The artwork is beautifully done. The sound is pretty decent, but nothing to write home about, but what makes an anime is the plot and the characters. If you can't like the characters, you can't invest yourself in it!
Overall, I enjoyed myself a fair amount. Like I said, there's a market for this type of aggressive and violent love (?!) affair. If the characters actually showed any type of compassion for the main character, maybe it'd be more enjoyable. I hope the sequel will be better.

Yes, I completed this series. I thought to myself: "Hey, why not? It's only 11 minutes long and maybe there's an interesting character." 26 episodes later, I'm still hoping it gets better.
I decided to watch this series because it is based on an otome game that I just started playing and I wanted to know who I would want to go for. The video game is more in depth in the first 5 minutes than this entire anime. The first episode, you're introduced to Yoh and he tells Tsukiko that they've already met. any explanation. I know it doesn't have to follow the game, but at least follow some sort of story line!
Every 2 episodes, you're taken through the backstory of the male characters that have something to do with the female. Truly, only a few of the characters are interesting. Some of them are kind of like trouble makers or people who couldn't care less about anything until they just see Tsukiko. Yup. Shallow. And you barely hear her name in the series. I get that she's the only female in the entire school, but at least the teachers should refer to her more than just "her". Maybe they're being ambiguous about the character's name so you can pretend you're in her shoes, but then why give her a name at all?
The story was a real disappointment. I get that they wanted to outline everyone's past and how it relates to themselves now or the girl, but some things got going and we don't find out about anything after that. *Spoiler alert?* I want to know if anyone confesses. Does Iku learn to love? Does Shiki move on? Why does Kanata keep talking as if he has a time limit? These are important! How many times is Yoh going to leave and come back?!
I really don't know how I could really "spoil" anything in this anime. Nothing happens. The girl is barely in it and they make the guys seem so deep yet, there's no progression in their relationships at all. It is FRUSTRATING.
26 episodes. I actually got myself through 26 episodes of this. Did I enjoy it? Can't say I really did. It was short and I hate dropping series so I stuck with it. It's a reverse harem, but sadly, it is not a very good one. It doesn't do the game justice at all. Why not do it in seasons like the game so that you can really delve into the relationships with the protagonists? BAH!
I honestly don't think the art is that special. It's nice, but it's not that beautiful. It's decent. The characters were...OK I guess. I didn't fall for anyone, that's for sure. There is very little in the way of music except for the ending song. Overall, it is not the best reverse harem out there and it frustrates me that guys get all these fun harems with fan service that are actually 23 minutes long with some character development. What do girls get? A measly handful (at best) of mediocre harems with the occasional shiner here and there. I watched this anime while watching To-Love-Ru Darkness and I enjoyed that anime a lot better than this one.
