Well, I was about ready to not forgive Kokoro Connect, but then Iori lived. It was definitely a dick move to force them to choose which person died, but then again Heartseed is a dick, so it all works within the context of the universe. I haven't formed a full opinion on Kokoro Connect, but it hasn't lost me yet.

Huh. Thus far I haven't had any serious problems with Kokoro Connect, as it at the very least seems to follow it's own rules. Still, I'm curious, what problems do you have with it?

While it certainly is true that anything that happens within a story is due to the universe's, or rather the author's will, I don't like it when an author can't come up with a better reason for things happening than "Because I will it so." Steins;Gate was apparently based on a visual novel, and I have to assume that it must be the worst visual novel ever, because it doesn't let the player make reasonable choices that would save Mayuri but instead forces them on this plot line. It really just cheapens the whole thing for me. I understand that is how this universe works but I simply do not like it, it ruined the story for me and just made me angry. Furthermore, the curious cat plot line is exactly what I hate, curiosity is not a bad thing and should be openly encouraged, we should be able to see how far we can explore without being punished for doing so. If we hadn't, we wouldn't live in the society we do today. Saying that time travel is bad without giving reasons that are actually related to the time travel itself is mean spirited and close minded. Steins;Gate collapses far too easily when you cannot suspend your disbelief, and in my case I could not. I see why other people enjoy it, for the drama and fun characters, but I couldn't stand the methods the author used to create that drama, and the message that the drama lead to.

Since you asked, Steins;Gate died on me halfway through, when it picked up for most people. I hated when the poorly written plot point came out of nowhere that Okabe HAD to revert the timeline to save Mayuri. She dies simply because the author needs her to to further the plot, but it doesn't make any sense. Mayuri's constant deaths broke what Steins;Gate had previously been operating on, the rule of cause and effect. When you prevent a cause, you prevent the effect, but you also create new effects that you may not have intended. It was interesting to see how Okabe's actions changed what was around him, and I was hoping for a story that would explore the full power of time travel. But the author chickens out, he realizes he has given Okabe too much power and needs to take it away. So he forces him to get rid of the time machine by saying Mayuri will die if he doesn't.
This makes no sense. Mayuri's deaths have no cause, they just happen because the author says so. He cites the cause of Mayuri's death as her birth, but if that's true then resetting the world lines shouldn't change anything, and was in fact a bad thing because it ruined everyone else's life. Mayuri should still die in the original world because "the cause of her death was her birth" and has nothing to do with the time travel. And even the fact that Mayuri continuously dies makes no sense, because the cause is different every time. When you have a regular, linear story, people can die randomly because there's no way to know the cause beforehand. But if you prevent the cause of something, you prevent the effect, the universe doesn't just create a new cause. Saying the universe is out to kill Mayuri is a lazy answer, it basically is just saying "Because I say so". Okabe should be able to fix the problem easily, but he can't because the writer won't let him, because he decided he needed to say that time travel is bad.
The whole thing reeks of sour grapes: We can't have time travel, so therefore time travel must be bad. But he doesn't give reasons that actually have to do with time travel, he gives the reason that Mayuri will die. That's stupid and it really angers me. Why not set up a story where the time travel has actual, logical consequences, instead of ones thrown in to add drama? A story that fully explores the concept of a man actually able to change destiny, and the consequences of that, instead of a forced plot to get rid of all of the good changes because "They cause the universe to kill Mayuri"?
