well, jusging from the 1st OVA, these 4 episodes are supposed to be a small joining point from 2 to 3
E.G: at the last part of the 1st OVA alastor revealed that the scope could only be used when there are no 'walls' between the two people
in other words, shana and yuji like each other and e.t.c
in layman terms, these 4 OVAs are fillers.
fillers dont move the story much, but fillers tend to either set a scene so they can use it in future for the story, or they are used to explain/ re-explain some things.
