THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
I actually don't remember what brought me to this series, but if I had the opportunity to tell myself to not waste my time on this Manga, I would.
The premise of Reiroukan Kenzai Nariya is genuinely a good one. Simple but charming in a way that only the Japanese seem to nail consistently. The artwork immediately reminded me of 70s era Manga and Anime, which the mangaka Tomi Akihito deserves full props for.
However, that is all the props he and this Manga deserve. The story is awful because it decides, without warning or reason, to dive-bomb right into the ground.

In chapter 9, Mikoto becomes completely infatuated with Genta (the main character), and begins sneaking into his bedroom to sleep beside him. Toyama (Genta's roommate) and Midori (Mikoto's friend) find out and catch her, forcing her to admit that she's in love with Genta. Genta then kisses her…and there the Manga effectively ends.
The reason why is Genta already has a girlfriend, thus him kissing Mikoto means he's cheating on her. So naturally, the following chapter has Genta, in an absurdly over the top and emotionless manner, break up with his girlfriend, Ayano; a very nice and respectable young woman. And for the record, by "over the top", I mean samurai imagery and demonic aura. This quickly moves onto Genta and Mikoto moving out of Reiroukan, meeting their respective families, getting engaged, and moving into their own apartment together. Ayano is never mentioned, and Genta's family seem to have no idea that she ever existed.
This is so emotionless and tasteless, that I was left speechless after reading it. I don't know if it was Akihito's plan for Genta and Mikoto to get together down the line, but from what was presented, Genta is the clear villain, and a rather gross person. This isn't a total surprise as the other couple in the series, Suzu and her underage(?) boyfriend, Hiroto, who's a creepy nerd and a student she's tutoring, is also out of the blue, hollow, and quite creepy.
I'm fully aware that when series fail to gain enough of a readership and they get the axe, that mangaka are given only a few chapters to wrap their story up. I'm equally aware that it's impossible to do it in any form that can satisfy both the creator and the readers. But this is SO terrible, that I wonder how much planning Akihito put into it before submitting the first draft to his editor or the editor-in-chief.
A small and inconsequential series it may be, but nevertheless deserves to be reviewed and rated properly. And since it was outrageously rated a 7 out of 10 on this website, it tipped me over the edge and speared me to write this review. 2/10 is all that it gets. There are plenty of other series to read, so don't waste your lunch break on this one.

After being into Anime and Manga seriously for over 10 years now, I can say with confidence that I'm familiar with the medium, as well as the genres. But there isn't a genre that I'm more judgmental of than harem romcom.
In the beginning I was accepting of most harem stories if the main character finally chose one girl by the end. But as I got older, I had more and more expectations and became less tolerable of certain tropes. It's because of this that I've ignored Harem series as of late.
But then I came across Umi no Misaki. I'd seen the series cover on

Mangareader many times but never felt the need to read it until recently. The series begins typically for the genre and sets up to be a standard series; depending on the level of sexuality and nudity of course.
I was surprised to find that the series quickly dispatched the typical tropes of the harem genre. Not all of them mind you but a good portion of them. The repetitive demonizing of sexuality and labeling of the main character a pervert doesn't happen; except once at the beginning as a joke. Instead, there overall seem to be a celebration of sexuality and no shunning takes place. This trope has been the main reason to why I don't read harem series anymore. There doesn't HAVE to be sex in the stories, but the demonizing of sexuality, especially for men is insulting and repetitive.
Overall the series is very well written with a great story and developed characters. It still has its share of problems however. By the final act of the series, the story deteriorates leaving you completely confused about what's going on. The Dragon God backstory is never explained, which is a problem since it's the MAIN PLOT. And for a Dragon God, not much magic or godly activities happen, which is very disappointing. Furthermore, Rinne's past life as the lover of the Dragon God comes out of no where and goes no where.
I know I'm supposed to avoid spoilers but I find it impossible to properly review ANYTHING without some spoilers. The ending is abrupt and inconclusive, and the Christmas special right after adds to the lack of closure. According to this website there are 135 chapters, but every Manga hosting site says the series ends at chapter 127. If there are 8 missing chapters, though it wouldn't fix much, it makes sense given the incompleteness of the conclusion.
I want to give the series a higher score, but I honestly can't given how incomplete it feels. It doesn't help that at a certain part of the story, it feels like a horror movie. No joke, it feels like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and just as overrated and confusing. Seriously, no word of a lie I fell asleep while watching that Anime.
In short, Umi no Misaki is a good Manga that breaks the mold well, but the last part can really ruin the experience; it did for me at least. I'm rating it a 5/10, though why this website classes "Decent" below "Mediocre" I don't know.

Just the same old trash.
Over the course of the 10 years I've taken Anime and Manga seriously, I've found very few series that I don't enjoy to some degree. But during the last few years, I've discovered a few that just don't sit well with me, as well as a few tropes.
"Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to" is yet another empty ecchi series that comes across as tasteless and creepy. The main character (Yuuki Aito) is just a sad pathetic pervert that you can't root for. All he does is bitch that he can't touch women and all that's on his mind is panties. 90% of

I have nothing against ecchi series if there is more to it than just ero. Maho Sensei Negima, Seikirei, To Love-Ru, Rosario + Vampire, Love Lucky, Love Hina, Love Comedy Style, even Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou which started off as a hentai series, all have more depth, story, and better characters.
It really bothers me that great series like "Maoyuu Maou Yuusha" get blasted by the internet for having a woman with large boobs, but terrible series like this cruse under the radar getting good reviews.
If you're looking for fun series with ecchi, do not look for it here. There isn't even any fan-service which defeats the point of making the cast mostly female with the main character a perverted man. The idea is totally fine, but it's horribly executed. Terrible.
