Online communities really CAN drain you. For me, they take up so much time, but that maybe due to the fact that I'm an admin for two forums, so aside from normal user activity, I also have to do admin tasks. I took a break from them for a little over a year, at first, from simply lack of time but once I was rid of that (I do have really good moderators :D), I fell right into manga and anime, am I an addictive personality maybe? Though, admittedly, I don't really participate in the community at MAL much, aside from friends and whoever comments on my profile. I find that more honest really, if I don't "click" with someone, we never have to "talk" to each other again. On forums, especially those that you are running, or are higher up in membership ranks, sometimes you can't help but deal with people you don't like or have nothing in common with. I'm a bit of a hermit personality as well, that may be another reason why I feel drained and stressed when dealing with a lot of people. I'm always in awe (well, maybe not "awe" exactly, "intrigued"?) of people who have literally hundred of friends and they can keep up with all of them, how do they get anything done? You're right, with friends, family, colleagues, there are always social expectations, you can't get away from those. The more people you know, the more you have to do for/with/to them, when do you have time for yourself? Misanthropy, hahah, I think I'm already suffering from it.

Nah, poke away! I think the difference is the attitude or maybe "genuineness" of those who ask. Most people, when they ask, they've already made up their mind and judged your hobby as childish or weird. What pisses me off the most if that then they hear the word "doll" they immediately think that I must want a child but can't have it and pity me. It's this kind of stereotyping that makes me want to throw sharp objects at them. Dolls are really just a small part of my hobby, it's photography, but it's like they don't even hear anything else. Maybe it's lack of listening skills too!

You're making me want to go see Sherlock Holmes right now. Hah. Have you read the BL manga of Holmes and Watson? I've read it a while ago, can't remember how I liked it... I guess that in itself is pretty telling, if it was great, I'd remember it more. But I don't think it was terrible.

I think pretty much all manga suffers from cliches and stereotyping. It's just as bad in shoujo and shounen. Sometimes I feel like I've read every single manga in the world, not literally of course, but more because a lot of the stories and characters are just the same. Best example I can think of right now are Special A and Kaichou wa Maid-sama. The main characters in Maid sama are carbon copies of those in SA, it practically plagiarism. So they're thrown in different situations but having the same characters, their reactions/how they deal, can't help but be the same. You read one, you've pretty much read the other. I got into yaoi because I just got so tired of the cliches in shoujo (I probably outgrew it too), why is the boy always a genius and prettier than any girl in school, why does the heroine, without fail get bullied for being close to the boy, why is the heroine, more often than not, stupid and a bad student? Where are all these spoiled rich boys coming from, how do they get the goods to blackmail the female main character into becoming their personal maids... Hmm.. bad yaoi is just like bad shoujo, just no girls, isn't it. I wonder if it's that the fantasies are just limited (if the audience is actually asked what they want) or do the mangakas and editors stick to what's been tried and tested? That's how we get the same pairings time and time again.

Shota and loli, I don't know how anyone can be into it, even putting morality aside, I can't imagine turning little boys and girls into a sexual fantasy. Total turn off for me, not to mention wrong. The very few shota stories I've read just left a bad taste in my mouth, these days I go out of my wait to avoid them. Eugh.

There is a very good reason why I'm so behind on KHR! I'm planning on spending a few hours, next time when I'm free, to read, if not all of it, as much as I can. I love getting into the story so much that I forget what's around me, get my heart pumping and all of that. I try to do that with all of my favourite series, though, eventually, I still catch up and have to wait for a while to read another batch. I only got the series downloaded this past weekend, so I'll be binging on it soon, yaaay. Are you watching it too?

Please keep it long. I love it.

Nah, no worries! I've had times when I just did not want to talk to anybody, including online friends. Come to think of it, I've only recently come back from being in a total funk, I look after 2 online communities (forums) and been absent from them for over a year but I just could not drag myself there for anything. Well, once in a while you gotta be selfish and do what's best for you or act on how you feel. So don't think about it and do what feels right for you.

Personally, I'm really enjoy all the snow fall we've been getting, we NEVER get any snow so this unusual turn is very welcome, white is always better than the dull grey of rain and clouds.
Kenshin- Jan 7, 2010 7:01 PM
Ahahaha.
Yatteraneeze! it's kinda yaoi, but the others are just shonen-ai.

As well as you, I like not-typical material, the uke and seme thing it's made for fangirls.
But Yatteraneeze! it's a "real" manga in the way it shows the world and the things that happen with the characters because of being gay (or at least, not heterosexual enough xD); the problem is that it has the typical uke-seme relationship, which as I said, I'm not a big fan of it.

Rainbow characters is the name I use for randomly uke characters; ukes are cute, deal, but I just can't stand the way they act sometimes, with the "oh noez!!11, please, I'm not ready", and the silly comments they always do because they are "innocent characters". You don't need to be stupid to be a cute character, and not every mangaka understands that.
For example, Gakkun from Complex is like "omgz0r, I will rape you if you continue being that cute", and he's not uke in the way most of the mangas show.

Omg, I'm just obssesed with Complex, ignore me xD
Kenshin- Jan 7, 2010 6:36 PM
So, if there's no scores, let me ask you what do you think of Complex, I really wanna know O:

About the shonen-ai thing, well, you have read the shonen-ais that I like the most (Complex, New Beginngins)
But emmm.. let me see... if you liked Complex, you should try reading Yatteraneeze!, of course is not as good as the first, but it has a real vision about the "yaoi world", and is not just rainbow characters flying all over the place (be careful, because that doesn't mean that the uke character is not extremely fag).
After that... Oyaji! Arisawa-san'chi no Hanashi, it's a really fun manga, good comedy for sure. Try it if you like laughing.
Finally, I would recomend you... The Cosmic Tunnel, it's a short one-shot (yup, redundant, i know xD), which I liked a lot because made me think about certain things even when it was THAT short.

Omg, I should stop writing :X

Put some scores later! :3
