I was excited to watch Ano Natsu de Matteru, because it looked like I would like the characters, and even though the plot seemed boring, I decided to give it a chance. But, to me, it was a disappointment. The only reason I even decided to finish the series was because of how hilarious and entertaining one of the supporting characters was. And for that reason only.
STORY:
It's boring, I'll admit. There isn't much going on. The only thing "going on" is the fact that it's about a group of high schoolers stuck in the midst of a massive love triangle. You know, the whole: she
...
loves him, but he loves someone else, and that someone else is in love with another person, and that other person is in love with some alien chick. After about 2 episodes, it's pretty easy to determine who is 'crushing' on whom. But what surprised me the most about the whole plot is that we actually got some confessions every couple of episodes, instead of the writers waiting until the last episode and making everyone break down and confesses to their love against the picturesque sunset backdrop. That's one thing I was happy with about this plot.
But, still, the plot is lackluster. After a few episodes, I found myself saying, "Ugh, come on!" And then finally around episode 8 or 9 we get some motion going, but it's kind of too convenient, in my opinion. All of a sudden, we have a dangerous situation that gets resolved in a "oh wow, that's convenient" manner...
All around, plot could have been better and needed some more motion to pick up that feel of dragging feet.
CHARACTERS:
I loved most of the characters. The main guy, Kaito, is as loveable as a fluffy teddy bear that was rolling around in chocolate; and all the other supporting characters each had their own loveable personalities and quirks, which made me really enjoy their presence on the screen. Especially Remon, the suspicious upperclassman who pretty much forces her way into the group of friends, and takes over the roll of making the summer movie. She is the sole reason why I continued this series, because her antics are so highly entertaining.
But then there is the main girl, Ichika. Oh, how she annoyed me. It's probably just me and my own personality clashing against hers, but she is the main reason why I did not like this series. Pretty much, if you do not like her, then you will not like this show, because who ends up with whom depended on her and her indecisive ways. Further more, she's one of those characters who finds it appealing to constantly apologize for everything that she does, which just added to my dislike of her.
All around, loved the main guy and the supporting characters; hated the "heroine" of the story.
SOUND:
The opening was okay. I only listened to it once and then skipped through it for the rest of the episodes. The chorus was slightly catchy, but nothing fantastic. The soundtrack was nothing memorable, either. Just some relaxing background music that played up the motionlessness of the whole show, in my opinion. I loved the ending, however. Very soothing and catchy. I always looked forward to hearing it at the end of an episode, which is the main point of an ending, am I right? It closed out the episodes quite nicely, if I do say so myself.
OVERALL:
Like I said earlier, this series disappointed me. If the main girl had been more likeable, then I probably would have enjoyed this series more. But I just couldn't. Furthermore, the plot was lacking, and in the end, nothing is really resolved except everyone has a broken heart but they're hiding it like pros. The only reason this gets a 7 is because of one of the supporting characters, which I think speaks volumes about how little I enjoyed this show.
While I sound like I absolutely hated this show, I did not. It does have some cute and adorable moments, and I don't feel like I just wasted several hours of my life. However, it's flaws outweighed those cute moments, in my opinion, and overall I would not watch this series again.
Long live Remon.

Yeah...okay. Here we go. This is going to be short cause honestly I can't find much to say about this series.
STORY:
It was okay. It had the potential to be so good; at one point I was very intrigued...but it fell short a bit. For one, the ending isn't even an ending...nothing is resolved! The only thing that could be called "resolved" is that the characters finally know what they "have to do". But...it's never revealed to the viewer as to what that exactly is. And furthermore, most of what the characters did from around episode 14 onward...was kind of pointless. So, in the end...we're left
...
hanging. And not really in a good way.
In short, episodes 1 - 14 are quite enjoyable, but from then on it gets...slightly boring. There's still some enjoyable episodes later on in the series, but for the most part, it's just frivolous things, dead ends, and confusion.
CHARACTERS:
I liked the characters a lot. They each seem to have their own pros and cons about them, and for the most part, they are developed in an acceptable way. If only the story was like the characters.
MUSIC:
Probably one of the things I liked most from this series. The soundtrack isn't stand-out fantastic, but it is quite good. The only thing is that there was one track that was played in almost every episode, which made me kind of get sick of said track. But overall, it was good.
OVERALL:
Meh. It was okay. The best thing about it is the different characters. The ending is...not an ending, in my opinion. But then again, welcome to anime...
If you're really looking to kill time, watch the first 14 episodes, and then just leave it, and you can just imagine an ending for it...it would probably be better than what was given.

.hack//SIGN is perhaps not exactly what you may think it is, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It has hardly any action, contrary to what it may seem like, and the main focus of this story is on the characters. But it is done in such an appealing way that I personally found myself not wanting to sleep until I found out how it ended. I'll warn you: .hack//SIGN isn't flashy and exciting; but it does have some fantastic qualities to make up for that fact. So let's break this down.
STORY:
.hack//SIGN is about a virtual reality MMORPG ( Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Game
...
) called "The World." In The World, players determine what class they would like to become, and then set out to play the game however they see fit. Some play in parties, while others choose to play solo. In this game, we meet several interesting and amusing characters - all who are playing the game differently, but whose paths fatefully cross at one point or another. But most notably of these characters, we meet Tsukasa: the ever troubled protagonist of this story. Tsukasa is met with a problem never before seen in The World: he can not log out. Stuck in the game, he is forced to face the fact that he might not even want to return to reality; but the many people whom he encounters during his stay in the game seem to be determined to figure out the mystery surrounding him, and return him safely to the real world.
Now...the story moves slow. Like I've said, there are not any flashy battles nor explosions, and what little action there is is very mundane...So, do not watch //SIGN expecting to be wowed by action scenes. That being said, there are some things that are left unexplained...but all those unexplained things CAN be explained if you read the manga. So, if you like the series and you find yourself wanting to know more about just what in the heck happened, then check out the manga or the novel of the same title.
Alright. The true heart of this story is in the characters. So let's move on.
CHARACTERS:
.hack//SIGN consists of enticing characters; each with their own stand out qualities, motives, pasts, and subsequently, problems. In fact, I must say that every character in //SIGN is extremely interesting - I found myself relating to many of them in different aspects of their personalities, and in how they handled situations...which is a very welcome feeling, as many times, characters in anime seem to be a bit far fetched as to how they deal with certain occurrences.
The character development is suburb; mainly because the characters are the main focal point of the entire story. So much time is spent delving into their hearts, feelings, and minds that one can not help but get attached.
ART:
Its got its quirks and problems, but all around, the animators did a good job. The animators made The World a beautiful place, while also a tad bit frightening in some areas. But I'm not too good at reviewing art, so I'll end this portion here and you can decide for yourself.
MUSIC:
Excuse me while I squee with joy. *ahem* This is one of my favorite soundtracks. Yuki Kajiura at her finest. Every track fits The World to a T; and one can't help but feel like they're inside the game in some parts. Aside from the perfect fit of the songs, they are also emotional, exciting, and just plain fun.
If you decide in the end that you do not want to watch .hack//SIGN, at least go listen to the soundtrack; it is pure enjoyment.
OVERALL:
I loved this series. I'd watch it again in a heartbeat. To me, its only downfalls were that there could have been a little more action, but it wasn't necessary to the story, and that they should have explained more in the anime. But aside from these things, my enjoyment of this series was very high. I recommend you at least give it a shot. You never know until you try! I did, and I am not in the least bit disappointed. And even if you do not find yourself a fan of the story...engage yourself in its soundtrack!
