Hi, hello, greetings. The Kancolle Movie that was just recently released for wider audiences. Now, it should be noted I am a massive Kancolle fanboy, playing the game for almost 3 years, and knowing majority of the characters and backstories, I will try to keep a fresh unbiased perspective on this movie. And unlike my previous review of the series, I will structure this review differently, into what I liked and didn’t like, what worked and what didn’t. Without further ado, let’s dive into it.
The Good
Narrative Goal
One of the problems I had with the anime was the lack of an overarching goal. The girls

would fight the Abyssals, but like why? Why are the Abyssals attacking and what is the end goal of all this? The movie fixes this problem by addressing who are the Abyssals. They pull some Puella Magi Madoka Magica stuff by giving the Abyssals a tragic origin story related to the ship girls themselves. Don’t want to give spoilers, but because of a clear and established goal, it gives us the audience a reason to cheer these girls on, albeit even if it is a vague reason.
Fubuki
Fubuki was one of my favorite characters from the show because she was one of the few that got any actual development and characterization. She grew into a competent ship girl, able to hold her own against an Abyssal and work well with a team. Fubuki in the movie had some interesting development as it ties into the origins of the Abyssals. It is a rather big plot point not only in the movie, but to the series as a whole. It works because it established Fubuki’s role in the story as this beacon of hope for all the ship girls and the goal at hand. This further develops Fubuki’s character as a whole, and I appreciate what they are doing with her character, even if it is grandiose in scheme.
Mutsuki and Kisaragi’s Relationship
Mutsuki was another favorite of mine as her development in the series opened up some sense of reality for the ship girls. She was rather fond of Kisaragi, so her “death” in the anime was extremely impactful. Kisaragi’s return was an extremely endearing scene. Just seeing these two interact gave excellent development to both Kisaragi and Mutsuki.
Further into the movie, it is revealed that Kisaragi is actually an Abyssal, or is slowly starting to grow into one. This ordeal creates a challenge for both these characters as Kisaragi tries her best hide her secret while trying to be the role model for Mutsuki, and Mutsuki has to again slowly accept the reality they are living in and accept the fate that has befallen upon her. Moments like these really give characters some depth.
Kaga’s Experience
I don’t want to get too in-depth into this but I feel like this should still be highlighted. The situation Kisaragi is in is not the first to occur. Kaga has gone through a similar situation, becoming an Abyssal upon sinking as ship girl. However, being shot down as an Abyssal somehow revived her a ship girL. This plot point becomes really important to the goal of the movie as it ties into the grand scheme overall. Her experience not only gave some decent character development, it gave some nice interactions between Zuikaku, who at first was ignorant to the situation but later grew to understand what was going on, and the main three, Fubuki, Yuudachi, and Mutsuki. Although her time was brief, Kaga still played a relevant role to the movie as she did in the show.
The Meh
Animation and Art
The art and animation style did not change much from the show. Each character is still drawn in a really unique and distinct way. However because of the time constraint, these characters unfortunately become background filler. The animation is nice and consistent, and although it isn’t flashy, it gets the job done.
The use of CGI in battles were a major problem in the show as the models didn’t match the art style the anime was going for. As a result, the transition between hand-drawn animation and CGI was incredibly jarring. On the bright side, CGI was really limited in the movie, resulting in a consistent production and viewing experience.
The background art was nice overall as well, where instead of a naval academy, majority of the movie was set in a random island with some buildings here and there, almost like Truk island from episode 8 in the show. The nice lush green scenery really helps emphasize the bright color palettes of the characters.
Unused or Pointless Characters
As I said before, majority of the characters with unique designs end up as background filler. It is a shame too as a lot of the characters have really amazing designs that can tell a story on its own. As a fan of the franchise, seeing these girls animated will suffice for my enjoyment. However, I really would have loved to see more interactions amongst the different characters.
Speaking of interactions, there are a few characters that stand out and end up getting some screen time.
<insert tokistukaze, amatsukaze, tenryuu, tatsuta>
Although brief, fan favorites Amatsukaze, Tokitsukaze, Tatsuta, and Tenryuu all have minor interactions with Fubuki and the gang. However, they feel out of place in the story because it begs the question “When were these girls ever introduced.” They kind of appear suddenly, in which a newcomer to the series will be really lost to their presence. In the end, they contribute nothing to the overall story, except for Tenryuu and Tatsuta mentioning the strange occurrences from the sea. And like usual, fan favorite Yuudachi really didn’t do much. These girls are most likely here for fanservice, which isn’t bad per se.
The BAD
The Pacing
OH GOD the pacing in this movie is bad. The opening act showed a lot of promise, providing a nice battle sequence, Kisaragi’s rescue, setting the story overall. However, towards the middle act, the movie slows down a lot. While I did enjoy Mutsuki and Kisaragi’s developing relationship, the entire middle act is filled with uninteresting dialogue, tons of exposition, and twists the viewers could already see coming. The movie picks the pace up towards the third act, after the ship girls launch off into battle. While the third act was the more interesting parts of the movie, the entire middle portion of the movie slows down the movie a lot. The problem is that they tried to stretch out each scene as long as possible to fill in that movie time quota. As a result, the movie ends up suffering a bit due to the pacing.
Cop-out ending
While I do appreciate Diomedea giving the series an overarching narrative, this movie obviously serves as a bridge between season 1 and the upcoming season 2. The events of the movie takes place some time after the end of season 1. The transition feels smooth, but this movie can’t stand on its own without prior knowledge of season 1. Because of this, the movie needed to make up for the mistakes of season 1, which was the lack of a end goal. The movie not only had to set up what should have been established in the show, but also had to end in a way to transition into season 2 as well. Lots of series does this, so I have no major gripes with it.
However, the ending really doesn’t conclude anything, as it obviously just builds more for season 2. Not to mention a deus ex machina after credits scene. I am sure fans of the character would be happy, but as a whole feel like one major cop-out.
Conclusion
Overall, this movie is a step in the right direction for the series. It establishes more of the world and story that the show originally neglected. I am looking forward to where this series is heading. As a whole, the movie is a slight cut above the show, with some nice action sequences, limited CGI, some good character development for Fubuki and Mutsuki, and a much needed push for an overarching narrative. However, the entire middle portion is such a slog and slows down the movie as a whole. In the end, it is a decent movie that bridges season 1 and the future season 2.

Sci-fi is a pretty common genre in not only anime, but other mediums, such as novels and movies, as well. For a sci-fi series to stand its ground, its need to at least have a solid fleshed out world or rules that are consistent to that world, or else, everything else will fall flat and lose its impact. Dimension W follows the typical sci-fi formula while still being able to differentiate itself from others in the genre. In a world where unlimited energy is no longer an issue, Dimension W explores the possibilities and situations various people can still go through. Devices called Coils
...
were created to harness an unlimited source of energy. At first might be seen as a MacGuffin Device, Coils, which are pretty important in the world building, are a means to deliver elements of the narrative.
One of the many notable aspects of Dimension W is its ability to stay consistent to its own rules. I always admired how Dimension W was able to use its "4-th dimension" premise" to craft intriguing yet enjoyable stories and plot points, plot points that actually become relevant as the series progresses. The show was able to build an interesting world with creative rules and still able make new ones while not breaking the show. Dimension W doesn't don't do anything groundbreaking, but the story for the most part is consistent and its all I ever want from sci-fi animated series. Another brilliant element of the show is its cast of characters. Kyouma is your typical badass main character who lives in the future, but due to unforeseen circumstances in the past, hates the world he lives in. Mira, his cute robot sidekick, provides a light cheerful mood in the relationship in contrast to Kyouma's serious and brooding demeanor. The chemistry and history between the two is enjoyable to watch, as well as give some levity to the dangerous situations they are put in. Another character, who is my personal favorite, is the supposed "villain" of the series, Loser. A masked vigilante with cybernetic enhancements with the power to manipulate energy, with an added bonus of having an awesome costume design and mysterious past. From the get-go, I was in love with his character and I loved what the show did to explore his character even more, giving him a meaningful yet compelling motivation.
The animation for the most part is pretty solid, it isn't as shiny or as polished as a high budget anime, but it could have been a lot worse also. It gets the job done. When it came to action scenes, they were pretty enjoyable, though was a bit disappointed with the lack of choreography seeing as how Kyouma is basically a ninja... Well he is, isn't he? The art and aesthetics of the show also work in its favor. The character designs are all unique and makes it easier to distinguish the characters. The choice of colors was also quite pleasing to see as it helps portray the beautiful world of Dimension W and its sci-fi landscape. The use of green was also quite clever as it is used to portray how energy flows in that world as well as give the various locations in the show charm. The music for the most part is pretty good. The Opening song, as well as the animation in conjunction with it, will be stuck in your mind for awhile. Seriously, it is that catchy. The OST is also pretty solid, however, they isn't many outstanding tracks. The ending song of each episode was also nice to listen to.
There aren't many complaints I have with the series. Dimension W followed the typical sci-fi formula of having a futuristic setting for "such and such" reason and certain situations because of some science related disaster. The show sort of played it safe by following the usual tropes seen in sci-fi series, while still being able to bring something new to the table. The premise of unlimited energy, the existence of a 4-th dimension, and presence of impending doom all makes the show really enjoyable and entertaining to watch, which is all I want from a sci-fi series. Not every sci-fi show needs to be an overly dramatic, dark, and serious thriller. I enjoyed every aspect of the show, and this is without a doubt one of the most enjoyable series of 2016 so far, as well as my favorite of the Winter 2016 season.
I highly recommend the show to those looking for a good action and sci-fi series, Dimension W will fill your needs. I can guarantee you will not get bored with the series. However, those looking for a serious and compelling story or a show with amazing visuals, you may want to approach this show with caution. Overall Dimension W is a pretty solid sci-fi series that entertained me throughout its entire run.

Seitokai Yakuindomo is a rather simple series. The basic premise in a nutshell is that normal high school student is forced to join the Student Council in a school which was previously an all-girls shcool is now co-ed. Seems straightforward enough. However, the real charm and main attraction of the show is its cast of characters and how incredibly the perverted the jokes are without being an ecchi series.
The Good: Like previously mentioned, the show features an interesting cast of characters. Tsuda, who is our main character, acts like the straight-man of the series, usually replying with a quick retort or clever reaction. Shino, our
...
student council president, is one of the many sources of perverted-ness in the series. She will often make sexual references in attempt of humor. Aria, our other perverted character, will often say some outrageous sexual remarks, and the weird thing is that unlike Shino, Aria means it because of how dense and how much of an airhead she is. Finally, our beloved Suzu, the loli tsundere series, will also act like the straight-man of the show along with Tsuda, but the show always comments on her height because she is abnormally, yer adorably small for her age. The humor is hit or miss. The cast will either say something really clever or something really predictable. At most you will will get a few LOL moments, but most of the jokes will get a chuckle or even a smile from you.
The art is rather simple and fits the the nature of the show. For perverted show, there was hardly ever any fanservice scenes, which is quite surprsing.
The Meh: The music isn't to outstanding. I personally didn't like the opening song or ending song, and the background music isn't anything special. You will most likely just skip the OP and ED sequences because of how generic they are, but if you like this type of music, then by all means go ahead. The story is kind of non-existent. The story will sometimes try to have heart-felt moments, but it will hardly do anything to you unless you grew some attachment to some of the characters. The structure is kind of weird also. Based off a 4-koma manga, scenes usually last around 2-5 mintues, each ending in a joke, then quickly transitions to another scene, prepping up another joke. It isn't a fast paced series, each episode will revolve around a theme, whether it's a field trip episode or a festival episode, and just use that to set up jokes. And like said before, the humor is hit or miss. Some will episodes will be hilarious, while others will be slow and gather a few chuckles here and there.
The series does enough to differentiate itself from other shows. I have to give credit that for a show about perverted teenagers (and some adults) it doesn't rely on fanservice, boob-shots, panty-shots, or anything of the sort. Instead it relies on it's interesting cast to deliver the jokes, followed by a clever comeback. This series isn't for everyone, but if you are looking for a simple series to pass the time, Seitokai Yakuindomo will fill in that space. However, this isn't the type of series you can't marathon becuase due to the nature of the series, one can only handle so much perverted-ness unlike our main man Tsuda

Hmmmmm.... "K"
What can it stand for? Obviously it stands for "Kool" because that is what K is in a nutshell. Cool characters doing cool things in a cool way.
K has a rather interesting premise where gang leaders called Kings, maybe that's why its called K. Anyway, Kings dominate majority of the city and each King is represented by a color, red, blue, yellow, green, silver, etc. And then there is one special King called the Colorless Kings that is shrouded in mystery. Our main character Yashiro ends up getting caught in the midst of the gang war because he was framed for something he didn't
...
do. Kuroh, the Black Hound and with the intent on killing him, ends up being his saving grace and ally on resolving the conflict.
The story itself had so much potential and the world was really interesting. But many of the ideas were never explored, such as how do Kings get their power, what relationships did some of the Kings have, and why was Yashiro so gosh darn beautiful. Just kidding, but in all seriousness, the story becomes really confusing and you might need to pause in order to actually grasp what is going on. The characters are, like I said, Cool. The majority had some depth to them and are really entertaining to watch, especially Misaki, a skater who belongs to the red gang, who I doubt anyone will hate since he basically summarizes the entirety of this show. Cool, short, fast, charming, and most importantly COOL!!!
The animation had a really interesting touch. A lot of the art looked really shiny and the action was really intense and well done. The soundtrack, ironically enough, isn't just rap or hip-hop, but mostly orchestral music. The OP would always get me pumped up for the show as it show cases all the characters doing their cool thing, while the ED closed each episode on a rather low note.
All in all, K is a real blast to watch. It is just cool, nothing more, nothing less. If you want a good anime with cool action and cool characters look no further because K fits the bill. Besides that K doesn't really offer anything else besides entertainment material.

This show is probably one of the most underrated show of the Fall 2014 season. It is a shame that this show is going to be lost with the others of its genre. This show falls victim to the "don't judge a book by it's cover" scenario where at first glance, it seems like a typical moe-blob show with hints of melodrama, but it grows into something much more than that and tries it's best to differentiate itself from the rest of the shows this season. Sure it is no Fate/ Stay Night UBW or Parasyte, and it isn't even close to being compared to
...
classics like Kanon or Anohana, but with the right mindset, this show can easily stand its own ground.
The main problem I keep hearing about this show is that it's "too melodramatic." Lets be honest, without a little drama and character conflict, this show will still get ripped on either way. The story itself starts off with a very solid premise with some shaky execution problems along the road. It should be noted that this show is really character driven, and if you hate one of the characters, the story might drag for you. Our MC Nonoka just moved into her childhood town where she reunites with some of her childhood friends. However, it might not be as easy as it seems as her friends drifted apart due to the presence of a saucer hovering over the cit, a saucer summoned by them when they were little 7 years ago. From there, Nonoka meets with Noel, a girl of unknown origin, and with her tries to reunite with her friends as they were before the saucer came in. The story itself isn't perfect, and it can be quite predictable at times. There are even some questionable moments such as "why isn't the government doing anything about the saucer" or "is a certain character's reason for hatred towards the saucer justifiable?" If we stand back and look at the story for what it is, a coming of age story about old friendships and new relationships, the story is quite bearable and delightful to watch.
Another plus of the series is sound and art/animation department. The art style is really, how should I say, bright, cheery, and beautiful. The animation, for the most part, is pretty solid, it gets the job done. The soundtrack is quite well done. All the pieces compliments the scenes it was played too, setting the mood right, whether it is really sad, or really hopeful. The OP and ED songs are relatively good compared to shows of this genre. The OP is good but whether you want to download it "legally" is up to you. The ED on the other hand is agreeably great and definitely worth listening to outside the show.
If there are any flaws in Sora No Method, and there are quite a few, it's the character department. Although some Characters. such as Shione, Nonoka, and Yuziki, had some decent character development and back story, some really didn't get any, like Nonoka's dad or Souta. If there is one character worth mentioning, its the shows mascot, Noel. Noel, in a nutshell, is "THE MOST ADORABLE CHARACTER THIS SEASON!!!!" Jokes aside, Noel played her part well. By that, I mean being the adorable girl everyone wants to hug and be around. Although her role in the story is somewhat disappointing as the main plot device revolves around her and the show hardly focuses on her and focuses more in Nonoka and her struggle to conform with her friends. Speaking of friends, some of her friends motivations for disbanding and conflict are somewhat shallow and could have explained upon more or at least portrayed better. There are seriously moments where you just want to facepalm and slap a certain character. Although it really didn't happen, what they all became in the end was really satisfactory and worth the journey.
Sora No Method, sadly won't be remembered this season, besides that it is the "moe-blob" of this season. But it is just so much more than that. By the end of the series, I walked away really happy, and would love to see some more Noel cuteness and adorableness. This show is worth trying out as it is a good breather away from those adrenaline pumped action shows and hyperactive comedy/slice of life shows. If you are looking for the next Anohana, steer clear away from this anime as it would leave you disappointed. But if you are looking for something different in the moe supernatural genre, check it out. I really hope this anime gets noticed more as it easily falls into one of my favorites this year.

This anime deserves more love. Its pure, comical, dumfounded, and ridiculous fun.
This show is probably going over people's heads.
The story is simple, 3 robot girls defend the city against evil. The characters are a mixed bag, some are forgettable, some are just really fun to watch, especially the villains.
The OP and ED are catchy, as well as the rest of the soundtrack
The art is cute. Each character has something distinct about them, whcih makes them really fun to watch.
This show is goofy and shouldnt be taken seriously. Anyon calling this a masterpiece is giving it way to much credit. Anyone calling it stupid
...
is giving it way to much crap. This show is worth checking out.
There are 3 episodes, about 30-45 minutes each.

Ah Angel Beats! the first anime to actually make me shed a couple of tears. And for that, this show will always have a place in my heart, no matter what people say.
The premise is quite intriguing. Our main character Otonashi is mysteriously put into a world, where no one can die. In a highschool like setting, yes a highschool, I was surprised also, a military like team of students go against a girl called Angel who somehow makes them disappear. the course of the show.
The reason I watched this show is how much praise this show has been getting. Angel Beats rightly deserves much of that praise no matter what people say. I am no fanboy or anything, but this show is good, even great, but not a masterpiece like other fans proclaim it to be.
The art and animation of Angel Beats is really well done. The color schemes of each character works well for them. Speaking of characters, there are so many of them. The main 3 that will remain on your mind are Kanada, Yuri, and Otonashi, and if you are like me, you will also love the rest of the characters. Kanade is such a sweet heart and really cute, Yuri has really understandable motives, and Otonashi is admirable. Although some characters get back stories,the rest are cut from the story rather quickly. Some side characters like TK or ninja girl needed some backstory. The soundtrack in this anime is pretty good. I was never a fan of highschool band songs or J-pop in general, but the opening theme and some classy songs fit the show quite well. It helps set the mood, for something funny or something emotional.
A lot of the criticisms for this show comes from people over thinking things. For example the ending, it was really heart felt and made me shed a tear. However, I did notice a plot hole in the ending. For a lot of people this plot hole distracts the viewer from the meaning of this ending and ultimately ruins it. However, I view it differently. It helps build the world of Angel Beats. SPOILER!!!! They say Kanade came their first before Otonashi, but Otonashi died before moving into this world. This raises questions whether this world actually follows rules of time continuity like our world. Have people ever wondered why there are so many high school students and whether if they died at the same time or not.
These type of questions create the world. If Baccano has taught me anything, and it indeed has taught me a lot of things, is that these type of shows are purposely left open ended for the viewers imagination and help bringing to the work. Some of the side characters didn't get much development or back story, but if you open your mind and try to imagine what they were like before, this show brings in a lot more meaning. Same can be said about the ending. When I first heard of this plot hole, I was heartbroken because I love this anime so much. But after watching a couple more shows and Baccano, I came to the conclusion that these endings are left open with gapping plot holes to open the viewers imagination and bring meaning to the work. Some people rather have the answer in front of them and those people are the ones who got turned off by the ending. But if you are like me, this show can be really beautiful, and that is why Angel Beats deserve a 9/10. Its not a masterpiece, but it is still and enjoyable and really great anime.
I can not recommend this anime enough. I recommend this anime to those who want a touching and heart felt anime, with meaningful themes and touching moments.

Log Horizon just finished airing recently, but I watched the series along while it was still airing. It was a really enjoyable expierence.
Log Horizon is one of those animes that will constantly keep on hetting compared to similar works, for example .Hack and Sword Art Online. However, Log Horizon picks up where both SAO AND .Hack failed, and put its own twist on things.
To start off, Log Horizon is one of my favorites fall 2013 animes. Like a lot of shows, this show might be great but also has its shares of flaws

going for them and they were well developed. The story was also interesting, taking its focus on the political and world building aspects instead of SAO wwhich followed a weak romance but excellent action. Not to say Log Horizon has action. Itdoes, but it isn't the main focus. The soundtrack of Log Horizon is groovy, especially the Opening and Ending songs.
However, Log Horizon did take awhile to start off with at least 3-4 episodes to get into it. Also the art and animation isn't the most spetacular like Attack on Titan or anything. But it did its job pretty good. There were some pacing issues about halfway through the series, where some arcs dragged on for awhile, but it didn't bother as many people as I thought.
All and All, Log Horizon is a great anime that I had a blast watching. It welcomes both gamers and non-gamers, giving info such as what does HP/MP mean, and the variety of classes one can expect from an MMO.
I highly recommend this anime to anyone looking for something to fill that void from SAO, or someone just looking for a smart and fun anime.

Soul Eater is one of my favorite animes ever. It was, as you can say, my gateway anime, as it got me interested into watching more and more.
Soul Eater is a very interesting anime. The premise is quite unique. In a world where Lord Death is portrayed as a lovable odd-ball, two types of humans exist, Meisters and Weapons(people who have the ability to transform parts or their entire body into an actual weapon). Weapon and Meister students train at Lord Death's Academ DWMA (Death Weapon Meister Academy). They train so they can protect the world from witches and demons.
Soul Eater excels at almost

everything. The characters are all lovable and fun to watch. Maka is a normal braniac, Soul is "Mr. Cool Guy", Black Star at first might seem annoying and arrogant but later he kind of lives up to his name. Tsubaki is really sweet and kind. Death the Kid is awesome with his OCD for symmetry and awesome reaper status, and his weapons Liz and Patty are really funny and chill. The other characters are also really awesome.
The soundtrack and art are amazing. Death City looks like Halloween Town sprinkled all over the place and each character has a distinct look to them. The Openings for Soul Eater are catchy as heck, when I first heard both of them, I instantly downloaded them to my mp3. One flaw with the series is its rather rushed ending and typical shonen tropes. Although they aren't big, so they wouldn't bother you that much.
In the end, Soul Eater is a must watch for those who enjoy a kick-ass action/adventure anime.
Note: if you don't like the ending, watch it again. You soon start to like it more you watch it.

This series is probably one of my favorite slice-of-life animes ever. The humor is sporadic, but ain't random. The characters are cute and quirky, but not stupid. The music is catchy in a good way. Overall this anime is a must watch for those who love anything cute and funny.
