That was a good review on made in abyss...the show has got too much amount of praises, but even I felt it to be normal average anime...well at last I was able to find a good review which is more genuine...or maybe we were more hyped due to the other reviewers...yeah it's actually them who spoiled our way of viewing it, if they hadn't given that much credit then we might have liked the show more...

As an immense fan of NGE, I can honestly say I understand where you're coming from in your review. I'm not here to try to convert you to the Evafag realm - quite the opposite! The first time I watched it, I was legitimately bored. What sparked my interest was the philosophy in the introspection, and as someone that grew to really love the dementia genre (which is understandably not everyone's thing, and I have no issues with that) that is unsurprising. Neon Genesis Evangelion is a really confusing, depressing series, and once I'd finished it I was really put into a state of wtf, especially after watching The End of Evangelion (which really appears to be an enormously pretentious film to most, even to me to some degree). So little is explained in the series, you really have to go out of your way to read up on it, rewatch it, read people's interpretations of it, discuss it, and seek to understand Hideaki Anno's intentions to have appreciation for it, unless you're easily swayed by the opinions of inane fanatics - and really, not many people want to do that, which I totally get. In fact, another thing I can say to the detriment of NGE is that a masterpiece should probably suggest itself to you without you having to do shitloads of background research. What makes Evangelion emotionally evocative and a masterpiece to me, personally, I only really stumbled upon long after watching it. In short, what makes it a masterpiece to me is unique to me, as someone that heavily relates to its themes and characters, and my interpretation alone. Once again, I'm not at all suggesting that you go out of your way to find something to like about Evangelion, and I'm not even sure why I'm writing this comment.
tl;dr, I totally see where you're coming from and I agree with you, even as somebody that rated it 6 points higher than you did.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
