Oh boy, where should i begin whit this one.
It has become a known fact that there is always that one anime that marks the year, in 2012 we had Sword Art Online, in 2013 we had SNK and now in 2014-2015 we have Tokyo Ghoul.
So if you are reading this review, it is very more likely that you have already finished the first season so i don't really need to talk about TG story here, however if you didn't leave now, because obviously there is going to be some spoilers for the first season.
So after i finished season 1 of TG i was actually well,
...
preety excited for season 2, even though the first season didn't follow the manga very well and the pacing was horrible, the last episode really got me excited whit the amazing final battle between Jason and Kaneki, one of the things that got me excited was the fact that they decided they would go for a completely diferent route from the Manga, i personally liked this ideia, could it be that the people at Studio Pierrot realized that it was time for them to get their head's working on something new and fresh that WOULD ACTUALLY WORK this time? It turns out that no, they didn´t and its even worse than the first season.
Story 3/10
So the first episode begins whit alot of promissing stuff, good animation, fast paced fight's and Kaneki joining the evil side, yes he does join the evil side, but why? Well we never do get this explained, and that's what is wrong whit the plot in this season, there is SO MUCH stuff going on that isn't explained, and dont even mention the false hype they create at the end of every episode, like the Centipede.....Which didn't work out very well...But seriously i feel so...Uncomfortable whit this plot...Events are all over the place, some character's and plot points get completelly forgotten and thrown away, the way they make thing's try to look complicated and mysterious, it's just a completelly disconected mess, whit alot of wasted potential, it is a gold mine that they are just NOT using well, unlike the manga.
Art 4/10
So the first 2 episode's showed some really amazing art,it was GORGEOUS, everything was working so well, every character looked so good and uh.....Then comes episode 4.....The episode that stopped me from continuing and expecting something out of this season, i didn't felt ANY excitement on this episode, the animation was horrible, the fight scene's were slow and the character's just looked weird, everybody technically spended the whole episode in complete silence, just saying some useless stuff and well, building more hype to nothing whit an episode ending that just made me go *NOPE*
Sound 9/10
The only good aspect in here, the opening and ending's are still awesome and the soundtrack is still beautiful.
Character 2/10
This is where Tokyo Ghoul fails dreadfully, 12 episode's won't do it whit all this foreshadowing they give to every character and its *Mysterious dialogue*, but if they run out of creativity they can always give the *Kill4Fun* motive, which is preety much what happens here seriously, i CANNOT find myself liking any of these character or villains, because of their shitty reasons that can't go behond a Kill4Fun or Yandere motive's, the show now spends more screen time whit the CCG, WHICH IS THE MOST BORING ORGANIZATION IN ANY ANIME, and the way they try to make them look like they are talking about complicated stuff by using formal words is hillarious, i would like to see Kanek's inside struggles and how he is feeling towards the situation he is in, not fighting law suits living their everyday life.
Overall 3/10
Do not watch tokyo ghoul Root A, if you did indeed finish the first season, keep reading the manga, it is alot more rewarding, if you are looking for some good anime in this season watch something Like Ansatsu Kyoushitsu
