Chinese anime with a low production value. Despite this, it's passable and interesting.

The pacing is rough, but adequate. The art is sketchy, sparse, and recycled, but adequate. The voice acting is uninspired but does the trick. Characters are adequate but not deep.

The story channels a lot of chinese cultural tropes, so if you've mostly watched japanese anime, this'll have a refreshing change of pace and social dynamics. It's a fun ride if you don't expect a masterpiece!

My gripe is that this is the kind of anime where the main character gets everything handed to him and is very arrogant. Other characters tend to be incompetent ...

Overall, I really liked this series once it kicked into the more serious plot of the second season. The first season was a modest beginning to an action anime with some unique plot devices and reasonably good quality characters.

The comedy loses some punch as the same jokes repeat often. That said, the comedy is timed well so that it doesn't interfere with serious moments (and occasionally provides much needed relief of tension).

The characters are each memorable in a way that most anime just can't manage. I really appreciated that the plot is 'small' enough that solid closure and denouement were possible. The ending ...

Many of you reading will be quite familiar with anime, but for those who aren't, welcome to a new type of media with its own unique conventions. Ore no bla bla bla is a reasonably good anime, and has a little bit of everything, but falls short in so many ways.

While the philosophical intro was quite a refreshing way to start a comedy, it spent far too long developing a really superficial thesis. That said, those with background in history, particularly Japanese history, are treated to many jokes about famous people and their choices.
