Oh my God, this show is AWFUL!
Bland characters, nonsensical story, unexplained time jumps, lazy writing and a whole lot of stereotypes.
Thus, action scenes could have been the only savior for the show - yet, fight scenes are simply skipped, the combat follows no rules and everything is so predictable...!
Last but not least, I have to point out the lack of style, identity and detail when it comes to the world design. Being sucked into a medieval fantasy world with magical swords 'n' stuff - how cool is that?
Well, not at all because everything looks shitty. Characters don't wear tailored cloth with chain mail or iron
...
plate, no, they wear a one-colored something with an inexplicable breast protector. The buildings in the city look like 20th century or so with no medieval charm, etc.
All in all, an awful show with no redeeming quality I have found so far whatsoever.

I found this Anime while browsing on Crunchyroll for the first time and decided do watch it the moment I saw it's series-poster:
After all this cute and shy schoolgirls I was delighted to see someone as 'hot' and mature for her age like 'Celia' and gave the first episode its chance.
Main characters are the clumsy 'Mio', who learns to wield a lance and 'Mizuno' who teaches her as a former, now wounded competitor himself, called 'Begleiter'.
The episodes then vary between Ecchi, Slice of Life & Action in form of 'Tjosts'. The latter are very well animated by CGI, although the rest of 'Walküre Romanze'
...
is ordinary drawn keeping up a very high standard: Artwork is great, the city looks awesome and fitting to its medieval setting with sunlight-flares, water reflections, shining statues and more. Last but not least the character design is absolutely beautiful with each girl looking stunningly attractive and everyone will come to his costs when searching for 'his type of woman'.
The character interactions remain pretty funny and understandable with most persons owning their own defining attributes. They are well polished, but nothing special though.
What's most important in an Anine like that is -of course- the Ecchi! Those scenes happen quite obvious and teasing, though non-revealing. But in favor for that it doesn't seem too intrusive and always occur for a fitting reason. For example the 'wetting' of a female character is not just because of a mistake by the protagonist, but because of the horse standing on the hose making it stow until it shoots out.
The second episode then glances with many comparisons to actual sex, like a 'thick, long thing to bump'... Yes, we are talking about a lance! That often ends up in hilarious jokes and I laughed more than in 99% of the infantile Shonen-Animes.
To come to a conclusion: 'Walküre Romanze' is much better than people may think, its visuals are stunning, the jokes are funny and the action great. But of course you shouldn't expect too much. The story is completely run-of-the-mine and the characters don't really develop at all - it remains predictable.

With a good dose of skepticism I began watching this (short) anime in German Dub. And without knowing its predecessors Blood+ & The Last Vampire all I knew of this movie was its mediocre reviews.
First Impression: Great Visual Art Style, Good Character-design and overall Artwork. Movements are also really good (dodging in the water or pulling the katana from its sheath). Standing out as well was the wonderful music with a violin-main-theme and some roaring action-themes.
The story begins really calm and takes it time to build up the characters in school, at the cafe or at the shrine in her home with her father. The
...
characters seem realistic and likeable (The twins got on my neves in the end though). Therefore it takes a while, until the real Story picks up speed.
But not only the story takes its time, but also the gore, I am no fan of. I even dropped Elfen Lied for the exact same reason and Blood C did well in showing the gore only after some episodes, so I didn't wanted to stop anymore. Most parts it is in a reasonable frame showing the evil demons, but in the end it was a bit too over the top and unnecessary.
The fights themselves look really great in terms of animation and choreo, even though you never see anyone else than Saya fighting making it a little bit repetitive.
Having some unexpected story twists and some likeable characters, I found the anime to be really good in the end and I'm looking forward to finish the series with the movie "The Last Dark".
It is definitely no masterpiece, but most of the flame and low scores are not fair and therefore I give this anime a 8/10 for increasing the average score, while you as a patient reader can look at it as a 7.
