I've always thought it was really cool that an American went and directed an anime film and it actually turned out really good. Of course, much thanks has to be given to the source work, the mangaka himself seems to quite good.

I hope this guy goes far. Tekkon Kinkreet felt like Akira if it had been directed by Miyazaki.

His work on Tekkon Krinkreet was seriously fucking incredible. I hope to see more from him in some form or another.

Somehow it's really heartening that he's foreign

Mm. I'm not a diehard fan of his films and his personality and style are clearly very different from mine, but as an American who became a film director and landed a job working in anime, he's someone whose example I need to look at since I have similar ambitions.
