Synopsis

The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine—that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart. Taking the form of a fetching girl with wolf ears and a tail, Holo has wearied of tending to harvests in the countryside and strikes up a bargain with the merchant to lend him the cunning of "Holo the Wisewolf" to increase his profits in exchange for taking her along on his travels. What kind of businessman could turn down such an offer? Lawrence soon learns, though, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a bit of a mixed blessing. Will this wolf girl turn out to be too wild to tame?

Simplicity can sometimes produce the best results, and that is especially true for this light novel.

People who have heard of Spice and Wolf have probably seen the anime and may not even know it was based off a light novel or have not given thought to read the light novel from which the story originated. However, this novel is a very enjoyable read and can easily get people engrossed in the story.

When I first bought this novel I did it because I really wanted to know what happened next after the end of the anime series. I really enjoyed the series and the way read more

If you have watched the anime adaptation and are yearning for more of Holo's simple yet intricate and extremely charming character then i recommend reading this novel.
Although there are slight discrepancies throughout the novel and anime, not too much stands out. The novel exhibits the themes of the loneliness in a much more apparent and clear representation through the emotions that are being disclosed to the readers.
Overall a very good read for either those who are new to the series or have read or watched either manga or anime adaptations and are looking for a wonderfully written work of art which in my read more

Manga: Tabi ni Deyou, Horobiyuku Sekai no Hate made
Travelling is the main theme in both of the LNs. Both of these series have two lovable main leads. The romance is well established in Ookami to Koushinryou than Tabi ni Deyou because of the former being a longer series but both of them contains sufficient romantic moments. The main difference is that Ookami to Koushinryou is set in a medieval timeline which deals with a merchant's life whereas Tabi ni Deyou is set in a post-apocalyptic world. In short, they both are great reads.

Manga: Kieli
The two leads from both series comes from different worlds, their value of time flows differently. The world atmosphere is extraordinary in both series. One being the medieval ages and Kieli has a deserted sci-fi setting. The two series involve traveling.

Manga: Magdala de Nemure
Written by the same author, you'll find in both a very detailed and logical medieval world (note: those 2 works aren't in the same world), as the author uses to its fullest his knowledge of the European Medieval period. While S&W is mostly about economy with a touch of supernatural, Magdala is about alchemy (as a science, not as some kind of supernatural thing) with a touch of supernatural. Both have a couple of character with really enjoyable conversations; but contrary to Holo who was complex right from the start, Fenesis starts as a "blank paper" and will develop into a complex character volumes after  read more

Manga: Usagi Drop
Almost nothing is similar between these two except for the fact that both pairs of characters live in two different worlds and don't know each other that well, but as they face many trials and learn more about each other along the way, they come to grow close and develop a strong and happy relationship( Family wise in Usagi Drop)
