Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world! They're treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction. But what should have been any otaku's wet dream quickly turns into Hajime's nightmare. While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime's job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair. Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith's level of strength?

Background

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou on November 7, 2013. Overlap has released a revised and illustrated version of the series since June 25, 2015 under its Overlap Bunko label.

The series was published digitally in English as Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest by J-Novel Club from May 6, 2017 to March 24, 2023, and in print by Seven Seas Entertainment under the Airship imprint from February 6, 2018 to October 24, 2023.

Honest, one of the few isekai stories that actually gains from being an isekai (there are objectively better isekais, like Mushoku or even Tensura, but they didn't really have to be isekais).
The story follows Hajime, who upon being isekai-ed with the rest of his class, gets one of the weakest jobs and now has to survive all on his own. To do that, he becomes stronger and essentially lets go of his humanity. But as he meets new friends (and girls for his harem) he gains back that humanity.
This is most definitely not for everyone, the author really embraces the chuuni side of the story. ...

This novel was one of the first ever novels I've read, and the start to my interest in the "Another World" genre. Even though this story piqued my interest in the first place, it disappeared in the end due to unforeseen reasons...

"Main character not really liked by classmates, whole class summoned into another world, main character gets abandoned/leaves, and then becomes OP in the span of a few chapters". Arifureta Shokugyou de SekaI Saikyou for better or worse is a story that fails to live up to the quality and potential it displayed in the first volume. The premise and concept that were seen in the first volume actually made it seem different from the various "transported to another world" light novels that have recently plagued the market as of late.
