Both series tells of a story about youth. The main male protagonist are involved in a competitive activity that displays their talents against others while also having a partner on stage that they can perform with. Their relationships also features a variety of characters ranging from friends, rivals, and potential romantic interest There is a charming way that both storytelling are focused about with a style that matches their premise. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso displays talent with the piano while Sesuji wo Pin! features dancing.

The premise of both series involves performing as a prominent theme. Although they take different approaches at storytelling, their expression has a similar feel. Both series' main male protagonist gets involved with an activity that tests the limits of their skills. Throughout the story, they encounter skilled competitors as well as interpersonal problems that brings the best of their character. There is also subtle romance that develops as character relationship also becomes a focus. Akb49 presents mostly singing while Sesuji wo Pin! involves dancing.

For both series, there's a lot of potential with the skills and talents of the main characters. In essence, they get involved with dancing. And through competition, their skills are tested to the limits against other talented rivals. In addition, there's an adequate amount of dancing styles and techniques that are shown. Both series takes place in a school life environment where relationships are also important as part of its story.
