Main similarity is the "Student Council" theme. As well as the main characters being childhood friends and going around solving school problems. Main difference is this involves fights or "duels" with magical items/powers called "Maken".

both are about a useless guy who starts going to a school without knowing what kind of school it is. both are Harem ecchi with supernatural fighting stuff.

Both titles not only involve similar characters (weak male protagonist and strong well-endowed female characters), but also exhaust harem, action, and ecchi tropes.

Both are about a Guy who somehow ends up Joining and living with the powerful Girls (Maken/Idea) of the Student Council.

It looks similar in general. Both are ecchi with some nice battles and main hero leveling-up through the series.

Both protagonists leave home to attend school where they meet mysterious yet powerful girls who greatly change their lives. Similarly Kanachime deals with magical swords whereas Maken-Ki deals with magical elements and artifacts. The plots deviate shortly after but the priciple of a young man wanting to become stronger are strongly present in both.

Similarities between these two series include: powerful females; a weak male protagonist; fights involving the use of special abilities; and a blatant and exaggerated display of ecchi.

Both of these action oriented titles shamelessly mixes in ecchi at almost every possible opportunity.

Both of these serialisations feature action and ecchi sequences involving a male protagonist and his many female admirers set primarily within a school setting.

Very similar genres... boy goes off to a magic school who is powerless and unable to use magic (or so it seems...) Joins the school's magic commitee and works hard to stay in the school...Both seem to have many female characters (vs. males) and plenty of FanService!!
