It often overlaps with other genres such as fantasy, black comedy, and science fiction, while the genre is closely related with the psychological horror and psychological thriller genres. Psychological dramas use these genres tropes to focus on the human condition and psychological effects, usually in a mature and serious tone.

Psychological drama explore thematic elements such as abandonment, coming-of-age problems, denialism, disability, distorted sequences, dysfunctional relationships, human sexuality, mental disorders, mood swings, odd behaviors, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychological abuse, psychedelic art, social issues, and other serious discussions that unlikely centers themes turn more focused on both issues of the character's life and reality.

This stack also includes manga that are not listed as "Psychological" in mal database but they still have psychological elements in them E.g. Shoujo Fujuubun.

I love reading tragic and twisted romance. So I made this stack for myself and also for the people who enjoy reading them. Hope you'll be able to find something new through this stack ^^

All of these stories center around a main character with depression.

It is revealed or majorly hinted that they have depression within the first few chapters.

Important note: Not all of these focus specifically on depression, but it is almost always a major component of the main character's development.

Sometimes stories aren't made only for enjoyment, sometimes it hits too close to reality and you can always learn something from that. You can find life lessons in these manga.

Manga about protagonists that's lives changed for the better due to a change in how they see the world, themselves and those around them, though there are some that must go through hardships before they are able to change.

The change in these protagonists aren't instant and some of the included protagonists take a long time to change or just have a more natural gradual change that is more apparent once you have gotten further into the story.

Stuff that made me feel weird

Slice of life manga involving things like death, suicide, murder, depression, anxiety, paranoia, racism, survival, dark secrets(ex.cloning), loss/decline in/of civilisation etc.

I've included the fable and Kizudarake no Jinsei which aren't labelled as slice of life but they lie somewhere between gritty crime drama and a slice of life story.

Manga that explore loneliness/solitude in significant capacity. This includes social isolation, literal isolation, and so on!

The term "denpa" means electromagnetic wave and is used to refer to people whit strange beliefs or delusions. In manga, the denpa genre often includes motifs of technology, character's who are outsiders in mundane environments, and a surrealistic, but often dark, tone. Common themes include dissconecton from one's surroundings, anxiety, and paranoia. Many denpa stories fall into the horror genre, but a manga doesn't have to be scary or depressing to be denpa.
The denpa genre is very popular when it comes to visual novels, some notable ones being Saya No Uta, Wonderful Everyday, and YOU AND ME AND HER.
