Both titles feature the same artist and are about teen solving mysteries. Though Tantei Gakuen Q features a group working together to solve cases, Kindaichi really only has one person solving the mysteries.

Both involved detevtive work. Both got famous grandfather and both always stumbled upon the mystery accidently..
