My first review! Forgive me if I've given out easy 10's, but I really do feel this deserves it, at least in my opinion!
I've read the manga, excluding a few chapters from 57 on that could not be found. I have to say, I was completely hooked. Really, I never read a lot of strictly romance. Sure this is comedy, but it has no other plot than the relationships between the characters. Usually, this style of anime could really fly off course. But Lovely Complex was really great! It's a character-driven series, and this time the characters are likable, or realistic.
I watched the live action movie after I read the manga. It was a pretty faithful adaptation, and I did like the character choices a lot, and they did their best to depict the height differences between the two main characters. Otani was really adorable, and Risa was really crazy and generally awesome. However, I'm not used to watching Japanese movies or even dramas, and it was a little different for me. In a manga or anime, the characters can look a certain way, but when real people try to mimic anime, it can look a little fake. I really enjoyed it, still, despite the fact that they had to cut some parts out due to length. It really was cute.
I've only just started the anime. I did like it, the style and presentation in up my alley, but I am disappointed after reading the manga. It progresses way too fast for me to be comfortable. It's great for me, since I already love the characters from the manga, but if I hadn't of read it, I don't think I'd be very attached to them! So, if you plan on getting into the series, or already are, make sure to read the manga! It's long and really satisfying, but it doesn't drag on.
__STORY__
I really like the story. Too many romances about one person having a complex (which is never a complex, just moe of some sort) and liking a person. Bleh. Lovely Complex presents two characters who have identical complexes, and the growing relationship between them as they battle to overcome their problems. I really liked it a lot, and I enjoyed that the characters had complex feelings. It never was like they had one pure emotion, they had feelings mixed in which made it really realistic and enjoyable. A very nice story to me.
__ART__
I'm a fan of the style. Nothing completely unique as far as I'm concerned, but truly great presentation. It's not really notable, but it would've been easy to mess it up, so the artist deserves props!
__CHARACTER__
The best aspect, because their is no plot that involves a magical girl transforming and having to keep her identity from her crush. It's just straight character development, through and through character-driven. It's really wonderful, you grow attached to every character, even minor ones who don't appear much after their introduction. You end up liking the characters so much, and seeing them as realistic people, that you don't complain when they make a stupid decision, because it's 'what a person in that situation would do'.
I really love the series, I never want to finish it! Once I finish the anime, what will fill the Love*Com hole in my heart? WHAT, I SAY?! read more

so far, i have been completely obsessed with this manga, anime AND live movie. i find this manga very sweet and the relationship is different from a lot of other mangas.
you feel that you can relate to this manga because each and every one of us has a complex about ourselves, and the two main characters just happen to share the same complex, but in an opposite way. also, risa's love for otani is a very long journey and admirable. makes me want to love someone as much as her.
you will learn to love the characters and you'll be wanted more. there are many sweet moments and some moments where i cried. i give this manga a 10 out of 10 read more

The heroines of these manga want to get a boyfriend, but that's not so easy for them. Risa is a bit too tall while Haruna has a bad fashion sense and a masuline build due to playing baseball in middle school. Along the way they end up going out with the guy who supported them and helped them from the beginning.
Both Koukou Debut and Lovely Complex are lighthearted shoujo romantic comedies. The main couple in both these series follow similar patterns. Risa(Lovecom) is worried about her height and Haruna (Koukou debut) is too atletic to get guys. Both fall in love with guys at first who end up getting other girlfriends, then go for the guy that they've known longer. They're both very cute and if you liked one you'll probably like the other. They have a similar feeling to them.
Both mangas are very similar in relationships and how they began there love interests... Its not the height complex but Haruna couldn't get a boy because her styles/body tone didn't attact them, she is more "buff"(you don't notice) because she played for the softball team... Both of them start out trying to look for boyfriends and winds up ending with the guy they were close to in the beginning...
Cute, funny, quirky, and all around awesome and enjoyable shoujo high school romance series. They both have a very similar vibe to them, and similar approaches to their manic, endearing love stories. If these two series were people, I'd think they'd been separated at birth.
A boy and a girl who at first are friends later they fall in love
Love, sadness, excitement, and just about every other emotion can be express while you're reading these two manga, They are both so alike yet at the same time so different.
Koukou Debut is about a girl name Haruna, who had just enter her first year in High School. Like most girl that are portray in shougo manga, she's looking for a boyfriend. But things aren't going well for her as she has such a terrible taste in fashion and a masculine body due to playing baseball in Middle School. Lovely Complex is about a girl name Risa, who's also in her first year in High School and is also looking for a boyfriend, but only one thing is stopping her. Her complex about her height.
In these two well thought-out manga, both of the main character goes through an experience that they will neber forget. They experience how to love, to feel pain, jealousy, and how to be a "girlfriend". In Koukou Debut, Haruna meets an upper classman name Yoh and asks him to be her coach to help her be "attractive". While in Lovely Complex, Risa is in love with one of her classmate/nemesis, name Omani, who's shorter than an average dude. As these two manga proceed, feeling changes and different goals are made. The experiences that went through these two manga are unforgettable.
These two manga are so similar yet at the same time so different, and are just so amazing. The ending of the two are also so adorable and quite funny. I cried, I laughed, I was even angry. Emotion can be felt while reading these two manga. So if you like Koukou Debut, you will definitely like Lovely Complex. And vice versa.
Both share a girl main character that has never had a boyfriend and attempts to get one. Risa (Lovely Complex) is taller then average and Haruna (Koukou Debut) has no fashion sense so they each get help from another guy, who they end up falling in love with.
They are romantic comedies with very cute art styles.
Both anime are romantic comedy where the girl and boy are in a situation where they are unlikely to fall in love but throughout develop feelings for eachother. They also show their love and relationship blossom through good times and bad. Both manga also have chapters in which career choices have to be made.
Both are great romantic comedies. Both heroine are hilarious along with the the male protagonist. However the slight difference is that in Koukou Debut Yoh is like a super hottie compared to ootani in Lovely Complex who is short. Beside that, everything is pretty similar. If you like one, you should like the other too! Hope you enjoy!
Hogh school love's. Same sort of feeling you get from reading. Both are actually light hilarous manga's. Also both the girls really do have a few similarity's. They are both
not really feminine, also both don't give up so easily, and both are also very enjoyable.
The guys also first act hard to get, and come over as indecisive.
Don't forget to check the other one out!

Lovecom and Saruyama both deal with a completely mismatched couple. Both couples frequently argue, but care for each other in their own ways. The overall feel of both is light hearted and very enjoyable. If you loved one, you should definitely check out the other.
The art looks almost the same, I even checked if it was from the same creator, but it wasn't like that.
Atsuyuki really looks similar to Atsushi (their names even match!) from Lovely Complex.
So if you're fond of the art of Monkey High, I'd say you really must read (or watch the anime from) Lovely Complex.
Saruyama! and Lovely Complex deal with weird character couple, being the center of attention in the class because of this. They start out friends at first, but slowly realize the feeling they have for each other. I guess you could that the main characters were opposites, but were also perfect matches for each other.
the art is also very similar and the story shares the same mood, very fluffy and light-heated, never getting too intense.
Both are actually funny shoujo rom-coms with weird main character couple.
Couples are really similar.Mismaches, judged by others, always arguing and on the center of attention. Both have really unique main characters.
