Synopsis

Ash is a young boy with apparent past-life memories who lives in a remote, deserted village. As he remembers leading a bountiful life, he can’t bear living in a world akin to the Dark Ages, where not even the internal combustion engine exists. Ash envisions the rebirth of a civilization where housing with proper sanitation is the norm and the world is connected via a means of transportation faster than horses. For that reason, he is eager to consult books containing knowledge from a highly-developed ancient culture that is rumored to have existed far in the past.

Ash makes use of the church’s resources, learning how to read and obtaining the knowledge that he seeks. In addition, he enlists the help of the people around him, including Maika, the village chief’s daughter. Together, they aim to develop their own village.

This is only the beginning of the story about a young boy who sets out to revolutionize the world in order to rebuild civilization and create his ideal life!

Preliminary (84/26 eps)
When I read this novel, I was expecting this to be ranked on the 100 light novels of all time. I was surprised to find this to be a hidden gem because I wholeheartedly believe this is one of the best light novels out there.

This basically is an isekai without any of the tropes you'd normally find. The main character that feels like an actual human. The side characters aren't NPCs with one single character trait. The world would be enjoyable to read about even if the main character did not exist in it. Everything that occurs within the light novel makes sense and ...

Preliminary (1/26 eps)
So far I'm really enjoying this series. I just caught up with Ascendance of a Bookworm and was in desperate need of another light novel with a similar vibe to it. Fushi no Kami definitely has the vibe so far, and I like that the main character isn't over powered, just smart enough to out wit his enemies. He's weak compared to the fantasy monsters in the world, and there is no magic to be found so far either. The only issue I take with the series is the world building isn't on par with Ascendance of a bookworm, mostly because it does ...

Mixed Feelings
I have very mixed feelings about this series. The first handful of volumes are 8/10 -- solid character, interesting premise, and good sense of momentum.

However, it loses steam after certain plot points are hit and feels very meandering and aimless. There is minimal character development, and it seemed repetitive. I had to push myself to finish and it was just... meh. Very abrupt and no sense of real conclusion for any of the characters or even the plot itself.

I recommend reading the first several books but then not so much after that.

- Art is infrequent but very good
- Characters are a bit ...
