Rika-chama : Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is NOT Overrated , Nippa!!

When I read the first Chapter "Spirited away by demon" I did think I've found another good mystery manga since I read many detective manga (Conan , Kindaichi , QED)

Bui for "Cotton drifting" Chapter I think this is the best mystery+horror+drama+romance blended manga I've ever seen! How the Character secretly love another one is cute and sad at the same time.

The Plot itself and the Story-telling is perfect! While it keep you busy thinking how this cute and sad puppy love will end the wheel is still turning foreshadowing that there wiil be (literally) ...

The different arcs for the manga version of Higurashi all have separate entries on MAL. Because of this, I want to review the second arc, just for kicks.

Please note that I still have no familiarity of Higurashi beyond the first three arcs of the manga version.

Story:

Keiichi Maebara and his family have just moved into Hinamizawa . . . wait, this is how the first arc started! It's almost like . . . the world reloaded itself to that point in time . . . anyway, it starts off mostly like the first arc: Keiichi and the girls have fun, and zaniness abounds. I will say, ...

This arc of Higurashi was focused on Mion and Shion. This arc's art are better than the first one's, but it is mainly great on Mion, Shion, and Rena. The art on Rika and Satoko isn't as good, but you will hardly ever see them, sadly.
Anyway, this arc was so confusing, it certainly has the right of being a Question arc, and the question will not come until the Eye Opening.
I did not like this arc as much as the first one, I don't really know why, maybe it's that in the first arc, i had no idea what Higurashi was. Or maybe it was ...

I really enjoyed this arc of Higurashi. I couldn't stop turning the pages and even once I was so freaked out I screamed! (well i turned to a scary page and my dad yelled while watching his football game)
I really love the art style of this artist, it really shows the character's emotions well.

What I really enjoyed was the mystery, where was Satoko and Rika? Where's Shion? Why would Mion do this? And when I read the answer arc to this I was very shocked.
The faces and expressions go from utterly cute to alarmingly horrifying.

The only thing I could do without was the Angel Mort ...

After reading the 2nd Arc of the Higurashi franchise, I can say that the author is pure genius...

I'd score everything a 9...

Maybe I expected too much since I completely loved the 1st Arc... It started off the same... Everything and everyone just seem to be so sweet and innocent... there were similarities with the 1st Arc that may have bored me a little... the twin sister premise was not too scary... it was kinda predictable that there would be an evil sister... but then the twist at the end was really really worth it... Art was effective and creepy at times... the bed crawling ...

Watangashi is the sequel to the beloved Onikakushi. Does it stand up well?

Firstly, the story is definitely weaker, not only do the questions served in this chapter suck ass, but its also predictable at times, however it was also beautiful at times. Secondly, the art. Definitely a step up from Onikakushi, with its horror images even creeping me. Thirdly, and lastly the characters. Definitely the best part of Watangashi. Seeing how Mion struggles honestly made me feel really bad.

Overall, its a good sequel. It may be weaker than Onikakushi, but it definitely does its job well. 7.5/10, 4/5

A great adaptation of the Visual Novel but at the same time it falls short entirely. Maybe it was the segmentation of the answer arcs not being included in a singular omnibus, the story here without feels incomplete in this format. As usual, with all of Ryukishi07's work, Watanagashi-hen was highly moderated to fit the visual narrative and I personally think Houjou Yutori did a good job in depicting both Mion and Shion. Watanagashi-hen is one of my favorite arcs of Higurashi and I think it's presented accurately here. Before diving into the manga I would suggest watching the anime first or possibly reading the ...
