Synopsis

It, a mysterious immortal being, is sent to the Earth with no emotions nor identity. However, It is able to take the shape of those around that have a strong impetus.

At first, It is a sphere. Then, It imitates the form of a rock. As the temperature drops and snow falls atop the moss, It inherits the moss. When an injured, lone wolf comes limping by and lays down to die, It takes on the form of the animal. Finally, It gains consciousness and begins to traverse the empty tundra until It meets a boy.

The boy lives alone in a ghost town, which the adults abandoned long ago in search of the paradise said to exist far beyond the endless sea of white tundra. However, their efforts were for naught, and now the boy is in a critical state.

Acquiring the form of the boy, It sets off on a never-ending journey, in search of new experiences, places, and people.

The manga should've stopped after Chapter 116.

Everything that happens after Chapter 116 should've been a spin-off.

I would given the manga a solid 9, if it wasn't for the post-116 chapters.
Chapter 116 was a great ending and should've stayed that way.

Now for everything before chapter 117...

For some reason, I have a hard time liking Ooima Yoshitoki's works. The details in To Your Eternity are beautifully drawn (although I'm not a fan of her art style), and she is able to immerse you into her story's interesting world, with her many diverse characters, but I don't think this is my kind of story. I feel like she's overusing tropes that bring sadness and emptiness into the readers. I was initially motivated to read this manga because I saw it got an anime adaptation that looked pretty interesting. The story started off strong; I was drawn into the world + the characters and watching how the immortal protagonist developed as a result of the events and people around them. But it went downhill after a particular arc with one of the main antagonists... and then it just kept going downhill because the author decided that antagonist should have decedents that continually harass the protagonist throughout the ages and the protag is like: "Hm, this is kinda weird and uncomfortable ...
