Recently i've wanted to watch a bit more of animes' with vampires in or the supernatural/gothic themes but possibly with love/romance in it too. I absolutely loved Vampire Knight and I've also seen animes like:

* Vampire Princess Miyu
* La portrait le petit de cossette (gothic lolita theme)
*Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
* Blood+
* all of the xxxHolic's

Any ideas of animes with a gothic theme to them like vampire knight?

D.Gray-man (more shounen, but definitely has some Gothic themes to it)
Kuroshitsuji (demon butler, anyone? xD)
Natsume Yuujinchou (slice-of-life mixed with a bit of fantasy in a modern setting)
Trinity Blood
Witch Hunter Robin

I would recommend Shingetsutan Tsukihime. A rather mature series. More horror than Gothic lolita or such, though. There are vampires and some other... "creatures". Some blood and intelligent romance, no hardcore gore stuff. It seems to be based on an eroge visual novel, and hardcore fans of that game seem to be rather disappointed about the series, but I wouldn't pay too much attention to that, it's definitely worth watching. At least I don't regret having discovered it a few years ago.

You might like Kigeki, just for its atmosphere (there's no romance, but then it's a really short piece).

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is an attractive gothic-horror-western-romance action movie.

This is a little bit of a long shot, but you might like Shakugan no Shana. It doesn't have vampires, but its plot features some similar life-force mechanics and it has a lot of supernatural action. And a love triangle.

I haven't seen it, but Chrno Crusade is supposed to be a fairly gothic action-romance. (It's also that rare thing, a nunsploitation anime, but that's not really relevant to this topic.)

Oh, and a friend of mine who's an expert on Gothic things argues that Shin Mazinger Z is rather gothic, though I'm not entirely convinced.

If only there were a proper Gothic anime. And by that I mean Theodoric the Great, awesome architecture or even Warhammer.

But I digress.

Trinity Blood could be worth a try, despite it feeling like a poor imitation of Trigun and Hellsing (The manga is apparently better). At any rate, it does have both vampires and a fairly Gothic post apocalyptic setting, with lots of religion thrown in for shits and giggles.

Hellsing Ultimate has easily the best vampire action I've seen in anime, but not very much gothicism.

Chrno Crusade has some slightly gothic vibes what with all the churches and vampire/demon things.

An anime about Gothic Architecture would be the best thing since Legend of the FabulousGalactic Heroes.

I second this. And if you are interested in manga check out Goth. Name is self-explanatory.

You could have a shounen tournament anime about a cathedral-building competition. Since each cathedral would take more than a century, the power-up sequences could outlast even DBZ's.

(Sorry for the off-topic post in a recommendations thread; hopefully I inserted enough actual content in my previous post to get away with it.)

Some of these might be a bit of stretch, but are still related.

Nightwalker - I really liked this one, but the art is slightly dated (not that you notice after the first episode or two).

Angel Sanctuary - gothic, but in a more classical-romantic sense than an eyeliner-and-dress sense. Don't watch if you're a devout Christian, since it has some heavy Gnostic overtones

Elfen Lied - In b4 flame

Shikabane Hime - Somewhat 'dark', but not really gothic. Similar to Angel Sanctuary in terms of the 'type' of gothic
"When he will, the weary world
Of the senses closely curled
Like a serpent round his heart
Shakes herself and stands apart."

Goth, however, is pretty superficial. The characters could have deserved some deeper psychologically structures. They are gloomy only for the sake of the dark atmosphere of that manga.

Seconding Kuroshitsuji.

Vampire Knight is okay if you can stand the angst. There's also a little know anime called Legend of Duo.

I definitely second Kuroshitsuji and Trinity Blood. Although I think both are good, I would give Kuroshitsuji a try first, because it has more of a "gothic" feeling to me.

Thanks for the great ideas. I definately like the sound of some of the animes. Ive started watching Kuroshitsuji and i think i might try Trinity Blood Next. Elfen Lied certainly sounds good. I'll probably watch most of the ones mentioned as they all sound really good!
