So I've only recently watched this anime and I've fallen IN LOVE.

One thing I was surprised by is how much I liked the society or culture, I should say, in the anime and I was wondering how much of it is real? Like is Hakkenden set in modern time (this is probably a stupid question, probably isn't) but aside from all the more supernatural aspects like the spirits, is the culture/society itself something real? With the imperial church, and the clothes they wear seem a little modern. So is this kind of a made up world or is it set in the past?

Sorry, I don't know how to word my question properly :x

I'm not 100% sure. But it looks like it is a made up world with both items in the past and present and a little supernatural thrown in to.

Spending more time thinking about the fictional world than reality.
