I thought that maybe we could make a sort of Romance or Not event here, like in the Tsundere club. I'd open topics on anime on our list or anime wanting to be on our list and discussing the anime or manga.
There will be specific aspects everyone is encouraged to analyze and give a rating between 1 and 10, and such things as "Epic level of kissing scenes", "Active romance", "Reality" and stuff. It would be rather simular to the event in the Critics and Connoisseurs club.

What I am asking you all here is
#1: how do you like the idea?
#2: what would you name the event?
#3: ideas for the "aspects"
#4: should there be a separate "You Decide" like a week after an anime/manga discussion when everyone persuaded each other that the anime is or is not romanctic, where everyone says yes or no as have the anime put in the relations list with a certain % of yes required?
#5: how often should there be discussions opened?
#6: how much time should we give everytone to watch a specific anime/manga before the discussion is opened?
#7: I like turtles
#8: How should we decide which anime/manga should be the spotlight?

I hope you like the idea.

Yeah, great idea, i remember mentioning something similar few months ago. That will definitely make this club much more lively place and also will make a good opportunity to share opinions about all kinds of anime.

#2

I dont quite like the name Romance or Not but as for now i dont really have an idea for a more fitting one. I like Romance Analisys better so maybe smthing like that.

#3

Kissing scene, romance level, reality i like those three.

#4

I dont think its a good idea to let the majority decide. With a thread like that itll be just a matter of time when ull have to add animes like Clannad or Kanon and probably 90% of all others harems. I think u should make a decision by yourself after hearing an argument or i dunno choose judges or something -.- ?

#5

Every time that anime worth it appears. But i think not more than 4-5 threads should be open at one time.

#6

I think that its not important when the thread is opened. The important thing is when topic should be closed. When there wont be any new post in the thread for a certain long period of time then topic should be closed, i guess.

#7

Yeah i like em too :P

That was just a reference to Tsundere or Not :P I wasn't planning on taking that name

Yea, I'm worried about that too. There's a chance many people will just randomly come to vote Yes on an anime he didn't even discuss with us and would result in many anime with hints of romance get into the relations which aren't quite romantic. What you said sounds like a good idea, cuz things would stay the way they are, except that I can keep track of what people think of anime being romantic or not better, and can have more concentrated discussions of anime rather than just random ones in comments.

In the Critics and Connoisseurs club, eevryone gets a week's notice before the discussion of one of each anime, manga and character, and then open those as Spotlight topics, where they discuss it for a week, before the You Decide polls come, and from then on, those topics won't become Spotlights anymore, but they will stay open for any discussion for anyone later on. That club has 150 members which are all active and they maintained such a high activity, that like 5-15 people actually watch the anime, manga and anime/manga containing the character just for the sake of discussing it with others. We should also not be too hasty with opening Spotlight topics, otherwise everyone might say "screw you!" and wouldn't want to watch any of the anime/manga, whereas we there'd be a higher chance to maintain activity if we take things slowly. I was thinking about discussing 1 anime per week or 2 weeks, since there aren't very many active people here, and if people do become more active, we could speed things up a little.

And look at the new #8

Ic, so that what u meant. I was taking Tsundere or not as a reference so i thought that u would just open a thread or few threads every now and then.
But yeah i like the idea the way u said it.

I think 2 weeks sounds reasonable at the beginning, there arent really THAT much romance animes anyway and as u said we could always speed thing up if there is interest.

Im not really sure. I think the best way is to simply discuss it in the club comments. Then after hearing few suggestions make a quick poll thread or something. That thread would be deleted after 2-3 days.

1. I think it's OK :)
2. Romanced Analysis sounds a bit too laboratory to me. Gotta think about something more friendly, something that won't make love aspect a lab rat :P
3. same as Dilvish
4. need to think more about this one
5. there should be at least 1-2 all the time
6. tough question, cos there is always someone who will watch certain anime later than others. Guess we can close a topic when we'll see it's not popular anymore.
7. don't have anything againts :P
8. perhaps the ones we chat a lot about in the comments section.

#1: I like this idea.
#2: Don't know.
#3: Hm. Although I agree with Divilish that kiss scenes, romance level and reality is important, you have to define what romance level is and how much it should be. I'm not sure if I'm expressing myself correctly or if I'm just misunderstanding the concept.
#4: Yes. I think that would be a good idea, but the minimum % have to be based on how many people that vote.
#5: I'm not sure. Depends on how active people are really.
#6: I would think 1- 2 weeks should be enough time generally. Perhpas a week or so longer with anime series on 50+ episodes.
#7: ok :)
#8: I think that it should be when and about anime series that are under doubt if should be added or not to the club, both series that already have been added and new ones.

#1: "go for it"
#2: "Under the Eyeglass"
#3:evolution of the characters involved in the story and the evolution of the relation itself, enjoyment, character disign /beauty or whatever you call it [for ex I watched some nice romance, but the characters were not the "eye candy" type ], of course smth kiss related [in maison ikkoku I watited more then 90 episodes to see a kiss *frustraiting*]
#4: yup
#5: 1 week
#6: this should be releted to the show lenght. You can't expect ppl to watch a 90 ep show in a week...I say a week notice for anime with 1-13 episodes and 2 weeks for the shows with more episodes...
#7: me too...if they are well cooked ;)
#8: A nomination list similar to the one from C.C will do the trick ...

EDIT: Well, you should put a rule like "people who don't have the discussed anime in watching list can not vote" ;)

Another aspect could be "character fairness". That's where everyone can debate on whether Yano or Nanami was the asshole uin Bokura ga Ita :D

#3: Kissing Scenes, Change in Characters attitudes, and i do like that Romance Lvl idea

#4: yea i like that you decide idea

#5: and #6: Well I think anime's should be discussed for a week and at the end of the week we do the whole Romance or Not poll idea. And during the discussion the anime's for the week after are being watched.

#7: I like turtles

#1: I'm in favor of his idea. I think it would be a fun way for everyone to get involved

#2: kiss or miss

#3: I think the criteria for this event should be 1)the level of romantic fulfillment 2)was there a kiss, and if not was it even neccessary 3) what type of romance i.e bittersweet,sweet,tragic,pure,funny,cute,mature..etc

#4: yes definatly. this will show the results of our discussion, thus inviting more people to become involved.

#5: at least once a week, at most 4 times a week.

#6: one to two weeks, since their might be people who will be very busy in that time frame.

#7: kawaii<3 i wish i had one:D

#8: we can have a quick poll between the top five most discussed

#1: Idea is amazing, nice way to give an oppuritunity for everyone in club to engage.

#2: Not exactly sure but "Romance or not" doesn't sound that great in my opinion but to be honest its a good start in terms of picking one.

#3: For aspects to discuss we could include, "How much you feel it" the "level of kiss" sounds amazing to me.

#4: Great Idea to me

#5: Keep it preety regular to keep the involvement going, not too regular though.

#6: Well not everyone on MAL can understand fluent japanese and sometimes fansubs can be a little unreliable, maybe a week after the orignal raw ep is aired.

#7: I like cats xD

#8: Sorry I don't have a great answer for this.

This idea should deifnately be put into action like half of the Fall Anime have already been aired now.

Fun thread. Can new members answer?

#1: Nice idea.
#2: Better to be called Heartfelt Romance or something like that, something sweet.
#3: I don't think kissing is compulsory. Aspects: how sincere, how complex, how convincing(since most hardly convince me), how true it is to the genre(most are just addons so it won't count as romantic), if you'll end up wishing well for the couple(most people end up liking only the guy or girl). Can't really think of more but it'll be nice.
#4: Not compulsory but encouraged. Would be nice to discuss but not for debate, wouldn't be about romance if it was.
#5: Most will appreciate the occasional vote and maybe would be encouraged to join, once a month. Only those who finished the said title(or finished longer ones to the romance part) are allowed vote.
#6: Maybe 2/3 weeks since romance should be an emotional and deep topic.
#7: They live long.
#8: Maybe let every member decide from the current list, then those who didn't contribute in the voting can feel useful.

Just some ideas, nice club by the way. Though I wonder if those I brought up might make it a small list.
