What we know after Episode 5 (Spoilers up to end of Ep 5)

So what do we know about the curse after watching Episode 5?

- We know that if anyone in the class acknowleges Misaki, it counts as breaking the counter measure.

- We know that the plan in ignoring the MC, is he doesn't "exist" in the class, as such this means, they think this counts as "no one in the class" acknowledges Misaki.

- We know that MC's mother died 15 years ago, the same year that Reiko was in 9-3 and it seems she blames herself for the death of her sister.

- It would seem the reason MC didn't know the rules was it was the job of the red head to fill him in, because she was off, no one stepped up and by this time he'd already talked to Misaki.

What else do we know?

After the death of Misaki Mei 26 years ago, an unknown extra student showed up. This is supposedly the cause of the murders. The countermeasure against this is, is when other students show up in Class 3, they plan to ignore them: as if they didn't exist.

We in fact only now the surname of student who died in 1972, it doesn't have to be Mei.

The class of 1972 started to act as if he/she was still alive ending with the person who died showing up on the graduation photo.

From 1973, each year a dead person will join the 3-3 class (because '72 class managed to somehow summon the dead). The dead guy/girl is making the overall class roster +1 person too much (comparing to 1972 class), and the extra dead person has a body/soul/memories, so it's not a classical ghost plus he/she doesn't know they're dead.

The deaths start because the original roster number is fucked up, so the class chooses a random student to become non-existing, to restore the original number even though the random student is very likely to be alive.

That's the "countermeasure" - 1972 guys pretended the dead person is alive (and summoned the daed), made a huge problem for the future classes so they make a living person non-existent, to reverse what '72 class did and prevent the start of the curse which can repeat every schoolyear.

So if a curse is started (Kouichi started it for year 1998), can it be stopped at all (for current schoolyear)?

Which brings the fact they can never know who the real dead extra person is, so they improvize. That also confirms extra dead person is not Misaki student who died in 1972, because if he/she was, they would always know who the real dead is right from the start and they wouldn't have to wonder who it is.

Also, the people who die if the curse is started aka if they bring it back to +1 number... (example: Kouichi talked with Mei because he didn't know she was the randomly chosen non-existing student for that year, and by doing that he made the +1 situation) ...can become the real extra dead person for some year in the future. So to make it a bit more understandable, the glasses girl killed by an umbrella & stairs can become the real extra dead person for 1999 or 2000 or 2001 and so on...

And a simple question, but without answer so far in the anime is why would it be good to find out who the real extra person for that schoolyear is?

So Mei is most probably really alive and that leads to an interesting detail - what did she mean by saying her artificial eye sees things that should be unseen - or something like that.. Mei by that logic could be special in some way even though she's, again, most probably alive.
