So we all share a love for R.O.D., but does anyone here share the joy of reading like the Yomiko and the Paper Sisters? If so, share some of your bibliophile-ness with the rest of us. What's your favorite book or genre? How much do you read? Are you a borrower or a buyer? Etc. Etc. I personally love to read, and one of the first things that got me interested in this series (before I knew anything at all about the plot), was the name "Read or Die." My favorite types of books to read are fantasy, and some sci-fi, but I can enjoy any good fiction ranging from plays to the classics. My favorite story is probably Nightfall, a short story by Isaac Asimov, but anything from Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire or any works by Eddings come very close and rank the highest amongst fantasy for me. I'd love to hear what everyone else has to say (especially if they have an interest in fantasy). |

Ah! Yes, the title of this series is really what got me watching. While I don't read quite as much as Ms. Readman (I am a fairly slow reader), I do read quite a lot. My favorite genre would have to be science fiction, simply because many of my favorites are sci-fi books. (Including "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card, "Dune" by Frank Herbert, "Out of the Silent Planet" by C.S. Lewis and several of Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld' series [are those sci-fi or fantasy?]) As far as fantasy goes, Tolkien ranks fairly high. I did like "The Runelords" (and the following books) by David Farland because of it's originality, and Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" is alright. I thoroughly enjoyed "Timeline" by Michael Crichton... but not the movie! My favorite book for entertaining reading would have to be... "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry followed closely by "Darwin's Black Box" by Michael J. Behe, but my main #1 is (and hopefully always will be) The Bible. |

I use to be a huge fan Ender's Game. In fact that was probably the series that got me to love sci-fi (His Dark Materials, and The Dark is Rising got me onto fantasy). Dune was also a wonderful series. I had a friend who was aboslutely addicted to it. As far as the Wheel of Time is concerned, I was sad to hear that Robert Jordan passed away. Although his series dragged at times, he was still a wonderful writer, and I was eagerly anticipating the final book in the series. In reguards to Darwin's Black Box, I really was not pleased with that book in the slightest. But, I guess that debate belongs in a completely different section... |

I love to read and collect books. I am about half bibliophile, half bibliomaniac. My favorite genres are fantasy, science fiction, and horror. In the past I have done much borrowing from public libraries, but recently the craving to actually own the books, to have them at hand and eye whenever I wish, has overtaken me. |

I started reading regularly during high school when I graduated from comic books for the most part. I usually read about a book a month. I read scifi & fantasy books. 9/10 books that I have read are either from the Star Wars universe or Forgotten realms. I used to go to the library pretty often but in recent years it has been easier to buy them used off ebay. If I really want something newer I pick it up from Amazon or Barnes and Noble as I tend to get gift cards. I don't really have a favorite author but look forward to Star Wars or Forgotten Realms titles when I read them as it expands those worlds a little bit every time. I've got 11 books on the way at the moment, I am looking forward to all of them so I should make short work of them. |

I love books! But sadly enough the computer has taken away all of my reading-time ;_; And I read mostly when I'm on the subway, and since I've been stuck home for a year now (not having work or school) the reading has kinda died... But even when I was on top I didn't read anyway near how much those paper-people do! I finished 1 book everyday, dependng on how long it was (with the shorter ones I could read 4 a day). But that was the time when all I did was read and eat xD I'm currently working my way back to the wonderland of books, and who knows, in a month or two, I might read a book each day again xD I think fantasy is the genre I read most from, but I'm not too sure on that point xD I've always had a hard time deciding what genre things is... Harry Potter and The Alchemist is my favoritebooks, but I enjoy every book I have! :D Right now I read mostly manga and fanfics though... And I'm a materialist so I want to own every book I read! Which makes it hard to read the books I want since they're not available in normal stores... If they're to be found anywhere at all that is! And the name of the anime was what made me interested as well :D And the plot made it sound even more interesting! I would love to be able to use paper that way <3 |

There is no reason for me to stay in the real world any longer. In the real world, it dosen't matter if I am here or not. When I realize that, I am no longer afraid of losing my body. |

Every time I read books, I am instantly transported into a realm without boundaries, without limitations - only the world of that author, only the world of that book. I am really infatuated with reading because when I read, my surroundings suddenly change into what the author is describing in the book. Like the books of Paulo Coelho. God, they're amazing to read. And especially the famous Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyers. Heh, because of this, I am currently writing a novel. I think its genres are mostly romance, science fiction, and fantasy. Hehe, it is also about time travel! *Back to the Future!* :P And you know what is funny? Anime characters such as Yomiko Readman and Roy Mustang are surrogates for imagining the different scenarios occurring in the novel. Oh and by the way, it is a series. :P I'm not promoting it though... just sharing. :D And well, apparently, I love Yomiko Readman! She is my first and the only one anime character that I like. She is like my driving force! Hahah! Yomiko :D |

Yeah, I love reading and I spend most of my money on books... When I'm in bigger city, I just can't help it and I act like Michelle, penetrating every book store ^^'' My flat is not as full of books as Yomiko's or paper sisters' but still there is a lot of them. When it comes to genre, I think I like criminal stories the most, also thrillers and horrors of some kind. I luv when there's a dark atmosphere and... an ENIGMA :) I hate romance, when I'm reading one I can't stop yawning... |
Sorry for my bad english |

Well after scanning the comments others left before me, I can safely say that I'm the same as most of you. I found myself nodding my head in understanding at comments about, being transported to a world of limitless possibilities, loving Sci-Fi and Fantasy genre novels, and the mention of some of my favorite authors (CS Lewis, Orson Scott Card, Michael Crichton, Isaac Asimov, and Tolkien). However I have some more books, and authors I'd like to mention. Piers Anthony is the writer of many a Sci-Fi and Fantasy novel, and creator of the light hearted and pun filled world of Xanth (a 40+ book series that seems to grow at a rate of one novel per year...). I never fail to be captivated by his literary creations, and they were to blame for many a late night under the covers with a flashlight during my middle school and early high school years.... The Inkheart series (3 books, Inkheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath), penned by the German author (the books were translated, and edited for their release in the US...) Cornelia Funke, is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES! For anyone with a love of reading, you absolutely are required to find and read these three books. The series centers around people with the ability to read characters and things into reality, and vice versa, people into stories.... Need I say more? All true lovers of books and reading could never resist these gems... Epic by Conor Kostick is part of a (soon to be * ) 3 part series, that I'm sure all my fellow lovers of books will be as captivated with as I was. I suspect, based one the fact that someone mentioned being transported to other worlds while reading, that there must be some fellow online gamers( MMORPG's to be exact) here and there amongst us... Well Mr. Kostick was one of the designers for the world's first live action role-playing game. You may be asking why this is relevant, and I'll tell you. Epic (and the other two books in the series, Saga and Edda) are centered around every gamer's dream; living in a world where your actions in an online multi-player role playing game, directly impact your life in the real world. I won't give away anything specific, but Kostick is a master author, and I've been waiting eagerly since 2006 for that last book to come out.... * the third book, Edda has been delayed in being released, initially scheduled for a late 2008/early 2009 release date, the latest news (9/17/10) is that the book should be released summer of 2011... Cory Doctorow's stand alone novel Little Brother, is a must read. I may be a fantasy/SciFi buff, but Little Brother adds an aspect of reality that was both slightly disturbing and thrilling. I would highly recommend this book. -Also I was poking around on Wikipedia, (so I wouldn't misspell his name (*is a terrible speller, and would be so lost without the built in spell checker for my browser*)) and I found something that piqued my interest. Cory Doctorow released a new book, For The Win, a few months ago, it's about online gaming (which was a fun coincidence for me after writing about Conor Kostick and Epic), and that it's available 100% free online at the authors website. Here's a link in case someone else plans to read it too... To change my pace briefly, I would also like to mention that the unabridged versions of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein*, and Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera* were both FANTASTIC reads. XD *Yes they were both books before being adapted to film (and theater (in Phantom's case)) versions... (Also, even though the Musical's version of the story of the Phantom of the Opera is not perfectly true to the way it was written in the book (something that happens in the movie versions of books far too often (and often bugs the crap out of me)) it's still spectacular, and well worth seeing as well...) I typically use my local and school (while I was in elementary, middle, and high school) libraries to get my hands on books. I started reading sometime in 3rd grade and I would read all the time, as much, if not more, than I played video games/watched TV. However sometime starting roughly in my junior year, it started getting more and more difficult for me to find new books that really got me fired up and unable to stop turning the pages. So I've gradually stopped reading any near as much as I used too... The last series that managed to keep me up late, unable to put the book down and go to sleep, was Issac Asimov's Foundation series, and that was a good full year ago.... |
