How can Sorachi make repetitive joke still funny?

I am rewatching some of my episodes of Gintama. Katsura being dumbass to annoy Gintoki gets me laughing imao. It just works incredibly well. Zura's jokes will never get old.

The time of how he uses those jokes perfectly according to the situation. In real life to people tend to laugh on the things which are suited for that one particular moment. It's not like someone can make somebody laugh all the time with supposedly good jokes with context.

Sorachi is a comedic genius. Even repetitive jokes are hilarious, but the most impressive part is, how he can make shameless references to other works so funny and fitting. I will never forget how hard I laughed at Kurokono Tasuke, Grillin, Breeza and some other references.

its crazy, ive been rewatching some episodes and arcs whenever i need something to cheer me up and they never get less funny no matter how often i rewatch them
if you can get into the humor its the best comedy anime out there without a doubt (next to Nichijou for me)

ikr. it’s probably because the characters are written really well and sorachi just puts them in random situations. the characters act the way they are supposed to do so the humor doesn’t feel forced

Making the same joke funny requires talent. Reminds of City Hunter where in 150 episodes you pretty much have two jokes.

They work so well because it evolves to the point where things like Katsura simply showing up in certain situations IS the joke. Or something that was mentioned briefly in one episode somehow being related to something important later on. It's a great way of using the continuity to make jokes.
