Title: Love Exposure(Ai no Mukidashi)
Director: Shion Sono
Year of Release: 2008
Duration: 237 Minutes
IMDb - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1128075/

Synopsis:
"The Tokyo Filmex program describes the film as an "epic love story," about a young man who "devotes himself to wrongdoing and becomes a legend of sneak photography" after confessing his sins to his priest father. After meeting a young girl, he becomes involved in a religious cult. This description, combined with the film's 237 minute running time, indicates that something very strange is a foot."
From Twitchfilm

I'm afraid this might be a bad pick because of It's length even though to me it felt like a 1.3h long movie, there's something special about this movie.

It's interesting you chose Love Exposure. I was considering watching it the other day but was a little put off by the duration. Looks like the film has balls though. It even advertises the fact that it is almost four hours long in the trailer, haha. I'll start downloading it after I post this comment!

Also, here is a sort of synopsis and the trailer for the film.

From Twitchfilm
"The Tokyo Filmex program describes the film as an "epic love story," about a young man who "devotes himself to wrongdoing and becomes a legend of sneak photography" after confessing his sins to his priest father. After meeting a young girl, he becomes involved in a religious cult. This description, combined with the film's 237 minute running time, indicates that something very strange is a foot."

So after 3 sittings I finally finished it, but am afraid to say it was just not engaing enough to justify its length. Sure I found parts hysterical but my problem was I didn't really bond with any of the characters.

Its not that I disliked the wacky and sometimes surreal ideas I just did not like the execution of them.

Still glad I watched as it is another film of my never ending list.

So whats next

I also just got done watching it and would agree that it is not engaging enough to justify its length. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it. It had that wacky vibe only Japanese films have and a story that filmmakers outside of Japan probably wouldn't have dreamt of doing. It is a very good example of modern Japanese cinema. I got pretty much what I was expecting from it and was fairly satisfied with the film overall, although undoubtedly it could have been a bit shorter. I'll give it another viewing in a couple of months or so and see if I like it any better. It could grow on me over time.

I haven't decided what movie I'm going to pick yet, but seeing as Love Exposure was a very modern film I'll look for something a little older. The next movie of the fortnight will start on Monday the 31st of May.

Hey guys, haven't been really active on my computer for the past week. About to move and shit, anyway, glad to see you guys actually watched the movie and you enjoyed it. Too bad it wasn't that popular but I guess a bad choice for our first MOTF considering the length of the movie etc.

The next movie of the fortnight will be Gohatto (otherwise known as Taboo), which is directed by Nagisa Oshima. Since Love Exposure is a very modern film I went for a classic samurai drama. I was going to pick Shall We Dansu? but I figured people would get more of a kick out of Gohatto.

Do you want to pick the next movie after this slenderfall?

Love Exposure

Starting as a conventional love story, the film breaks apart into an increasingly hilarious, completely insane, and unpredictable series of events and characters. The level of sex and blood is mind-boggling, and most of the time, completely unexpected.Half the time, it is also hysterically funny, weird, and mixed with dream sequences and surrealist images.None of this would work so well if the film weren't also well-written and damn funny, with a great core story. Unlike any film I have ever seen.
