| It is a mixture of hatred and liking. On the one hand, I loved episode 7 (The letter story between the daughter and mother, that was beautiful). Also, the animation and music were stunning. Unfortunately, the series was SO extremely melodramatic, the supporting characters were just empty shells, pacing was slow. It had almost as many flashbacks as Naruto. And the final movie was a cheap recap of episode 7 (in bad) and the ending was... well welcome to Disney, only more amusing. And about the episode on the train, I hardly want to talk. Who wrote the script, that was almost a bad parody of Bond. |

| One of the most beautiful anime from Kyoani with dull and boring cast of characters. Its final movie overall straight up garbage for regressing Violet character in an unnecessarily long runtime. |

| I binged the show in a couple days when I originally watched it. Some pieces of media affect me more than just being good entertainment, and Violet was definitely one of those. It impacted me so much emotionally, that I ended up writing letters to my parents and siblings, and borrowed my sister's typewriter to type a blurb at the beginning of each letter (it wasn't in good enough condition for me to trust writing the full letters with it). Add on the fact that it has one of the best OSTs in all of anime imo, along with some of the most impressive animation I've ever seen, and Violet Evergarden easily shot up the ranks of my favorites. |

| I'm an old mecha/sci-fi/action fan who's been watching Anime for 40+ years. This isn't exactly my preferred genre or type of story. Still, in that time, few series have stood out to me like Violet Evergarden. I knew right away it would be award winning and thankfully I was right. Writing, directing, animation... I can't think of a single weak spot. The music deserves an award of it's own. As a musician I am always thinking about the effectiveness and emotional impact of the music. This story is heartbreaking and heartwarming, showing both the ugliest sides of humanity and the most beautiful. I've always respected the way that Japanese writers can balance things like this, and do it in a way that doesn't offend or try to cram a political agenda down the throat of the viewer. There are a few heros in the story, Violet and Major Gilbert most of all. My favorite type of hero is the accidental/unintentional type who is selfless and was just trying to survive an unusually bad situation. Violet was dealt some really bad cards in the game of life and yet perseveres to come out good in the end. I like that in a character and story. It takes a lot for me to get chocked-up over a show, but this one got to me a couple of times. This series reaches the audience in a way that is difficult for anything animated to accomplish. If you can watch Episode 10 and not tear-up, you might want to have your pulse checked. I think anyone over 12 years old should want to watch this. When they do they do I'm confident they'll take something meaningful away from the experience (always follow the rating guidelines!). |
