"No Copyrighted Images" on Picture Upload Page?

I noticed this message when I was going to set a profile image, and I'm really curious about it, but I couldn't find anything when I searched, nor did the FAQ or Rules & Guidelines say anything about it. It doesn't seem to be enforced, judging by the sheer amount of images that could be considered "copyrighted" when you look at the user list or the main forum page, so I was wondering if there was a particular definition of what's considered "copyrighted" here, or if it's just some sort of default thing on the image upload. I decided to err on the side of caution here, as I don't want to break any rules (by accident or anything else) ;_;.

Frankly, with the humongous profile and people on MAL there is literally no way for handful mods to remove everyone's profile picture. Most of these come from pixiv and unless someone reports you for stealing their work usually no action will take place.

For example. - my picture is take from a random fb page that I just happened to stroll by, so I used it normally. In fact my form avatar is from a pixiv artist whose name I forgot.

To remain on the safe side you can cite the pixiv/source page on your profile so no conflicts occur.

I don't know why people write that they are approachable persons,
if you were you wouldn't be on MAL.

What if my profile picture is from an anime/manga. Is that okay?

Otherwise, what are people supposed to do? Upload pictures of themselves?
