I recently re-rated many of the anime on my list and my mean score has not changed at all. Is this a glitch or does it take changing a ton of ratings to make the mean score change? Is anyone else having this problem?

Do you even know what a mean is? You have 74 anime on your list that you are allowed to rate (watched more than 1/5 of their episodes) and your mean is 6.96/10. If you were to change the rating of one anime from a 10 to a 1 this is the math to how much it would change the score:
53 anime rated
6.96 x 53 = 368.88
368.88 - 10 + 1 = 359.88
359.88/53 = 6.79

This is the biggest change an anime could possibly make. If you only change an anime's score by one point then it makes very little difference. The mean score will also take some time to update, so keep that in mind as well.

Thanks. I guess this is done completely differently than anything I've done before involving means...

what kind of absurd/complex things have you been doing then?

This is as basic as it gets. Adding up scores and then dividing it by the number of titles to get the average/mean score. Not sure how this can be completely different from anything mean-related you know. You're probably misunderstanding something.
I probably regret this post by now.

Just to make things a bit clear. Mean score is the average of your total rated anime (from 0 to 10 ratings). So If you change an anime score from 10 to 5, the mean score will get low and vice versa.

Also It might take some time before your profile updates to the actual mean.
dont't watch that anime if you are going to give it 1* and cry 10000 words in review about it.

Adding them up and dividing by the amount is what I've done. That's not what zombie pegasus showed.

What I showed is a quicker way to find the new mean if there already is a mean and only one value has changed. Rather than adding all of the values again with one alteration I used the mean to determine what all of the scores together would equal. It doesn't matter what the individual anime are rated because we already know that the mean of them is 6.96 and we can therefore treat it as if all of them are rated 6.96 as this would lead to the same result. You had 53 anime rated and if the average is 6.96 then the scores added up would be 369 (I kept the decimal even though that technically isn't accurate). If the score of one anime drops by 9 points then you can subtract 9 from the total (369) to get 360 which you can then divide by 53 to get 6.79. They may not teach you this process in school, but it does work.

Not once when I was in school did they teach means to us this way.

MAL might be a little slow when it comes to updating your mean score. When I removed all my scores, it took 2 or 3 days to display as '0.00'.

Also, your mean score might have stabilised if you rated some titles higher than previous and some lower than previous.
