Out of all the romance anime I have watched in between me and my network, none of them have been in college or started the relationship
Aside from Itzuna Kiss and ayoi mori (I know I butchered the name of those, sorry) this seems to be a rare gem, so much so that I'm surprised it's not getting much attention.

Is Golden Time as rare as I'm making it out to be? I'm curious because if it isn't then we have the browsing ability of Malcom Mcdowel. They thought I was joking when I told them about GT.

Furthermore, if it is a rare gem, could this be a gateway to more variety in romcoms?

Rare? I don't think so. It's quite a popular title, with >200k members on MAL alone.

A gem? Yes. Easily one of the more poignant, thought provoking shows I've seen. Unfortunately, it suffers from the preconception of what rom/coms "should" be, at least in the anime realm. A large majority of people who watch this show come in with a certain expectation of how it should be consumed, especially following the mainstream success Toradora (which I think a LOT of people like for all the wrong reasons).

Unfortunately GT wasn't near as big as a success as Toradora, and J.C. staff seem to have somewhat jumped off the rom/com train (for now). We'll just have to see if Yuyuko or some other author can come up with another great story to be adapted.

If you've never watched and read anything in your life then probably.

a gem?
thought-provoking?

I could barely call this show a romance seeing how it became a total trainwreck
the romance is shitty and if you think otherwise, I honestly dont know what to say to you

I don't think it's unknown enough to be called ''rare'', it's relatively popular. If you are only calling it a gem because you think a college or an early relationship is rare in Rom/Com, then it's really not a gem either. While not common, you can find those things in many other anime.

Well sure most romance anime take place in high school, but I'd take another high school romance anyday over a stupidly written college romance like Golden Time

I mean it starts out promising enough but god what the fuck happened in the last third, talk about awkward writing. Ironically it was kind of the inverse of Toradora in terms of how the quality changed over time, and they're both done by the same author

This show is not for everybody, especially if their ego level is high.

My score 10/10. I love it a lot.

I really appreciated how this anime took place in a college setting, I haven't seen too many of those. There were also a couple of things I didn't like but overall it wasn't bad.

It was more of a question on the choices they made, not if it's actually good or not.

Yeah one of the reasons why I asked. It did try very new things and take an extra step forward.

Really? I've had ridiculous amount of trouble find a rom com that's not even set in a school to begin with. That's why Golden Time was refreshing.

The setting might be have been college, but it still felt like high-school to me by the way things played out, but whatever...

If you haven’t already, go watch Honey and Clover if you want a good college-romance-drama series...
Yes, I know it isn’t a Rom/Com... Although, it has some good and well-placed comedy in it.
