Wonderful short series. It´s cute, informative and interesting when you are into mountain climbing or hiking, it sticks to actual mountains, paths and settings with great detail and the characters are in perfect harmony.

As a huge fan of rural or nature settings this was also perfect to relax for me. To bad only the first season qualifies as a leaf. Combined with the second season it´s my favorite short ep series ever. The first season (our leaf) is good too, but it´s not much more than an appetizer for season 2!

It was pretty nice overall. Cute, informative, and very simple and fun to watch. Reminds me of my field trips back when I was living in Japan.

As for Season 2, I am deciding whether or not to consider it as a Leaf of the Week. Each episode is 13 minutes long, and there are 24 episodes total. Yama no Susume S2 basically has the same duration as a 12-episode anime series, so that qualifies it as a candidate for a featured anime. I might want to open up a poll if people would prefer it to be a leaf or a featured anime. I'll think about it...

Now you're wondering why I chose a 24-episode anime (13 mins. each) to be the Leaf, going beyond the criteria. The reason why I made this the Leaf of the Week is because our current featured anime "Psycho-Pass" will have its discussion opened tomorrow. Since there will be no Featured Anime or Manga going by then, I have decided to make Yama no Susume S2 the Leaf so that the members can continue to have something to watch as they wait for the next featured anime/manga to be chosen. We will be using the same discussion thread as we did with season one to discuss the anime. Even if the anime is too long for you to complete within a week, do not worry. You can still participate in the discussion long after the next week has ended.

This is one of the few exceptions I will make to the Leaf of the Week. After next week, we will revert back to the random selection of anime that are less than or equal to one hour in length. There is still time before Saturday, so if you are in disagreement with this choice, you may PM me and I will revert back to a short anime if there are enough members in disagreement.

This message will be posted in the Discussion Thread of Yama no Susume if you wish to see it there.

Thank you for reading and for your understanding.

It's nice to see that someone else enjoyed this anime even more than I did. Like I said before, it's my favorite short series (well, it was until Koyomimonogatari that is).

yay so you decided to make it a leaf...

As i mentioned it is my favorite short ep series ^^
It´s not MUCH different from the first season but longer episodes in this case means extended fun as well. And then, the 2nd season has the amazing Fujiyama episodes :-))

The only thing i thought was a bit less interesting were the last few episodes. After putting the Fujiyama eps in the middle i thought for sure they were going back there at the end of the series and let everyone make the summit this time.
After a few days i even changed my mind about it. You can´t have everything in life and mountain climbing is not all that easy, so it´s perfectly fine to portray you can´t have everything i guess...

Since there were no ongoing Anime or Manga featured in the club, I made Yama no Susume S2 the leaf to pass the time and give people something to watch...

Anyway...as for the reason why I gave this a 10...

When someone writes a review, they have to avoid showing bias to keep it fair. Unfortunately for me, there is no way that I can review this without showing bias. Why? Nostalgia. When I saw the scenery of the mountains and streets and paths, I could not help but remember the days I spent back in Japan. When I saw this anime, I instantly knew that these settings were real. That episode where they went to the park? I remember that! All the things you can play with on the playgrounds too! I remember those! Yes the bouncy mountain exists. I saw that myself. And Kokona's episode with that weird-looking building? I remember something like that too! And that episode that showed them walking up the tunnel staircase from the subway? I remember climbing that! I do remember climbing a mountain, but I forgot which one. But it does resemble the first mountain they climbed. I remember the structures on top and how the stairs were made. I remember seeing Mt. Fuji while riding a bus, but I never did get a chance to climb it...

Even before I saw the end credits on the special episode, I already knew that these areas were based on real settings in Japan. Much praise to the creators for making this anime. If you're looking for an anime that shows you what Japan looks like outside of the city setting, then Yama no Susume is definitely one of the best that represents what Japan truly looks like.
