Greetings,

I am developing an application that uses the MyAnimeList.net API and I encountered some strange behavior that might be due to a bug.

Description:

After performing http://myanimelist.net/api/animelist/update on an anime, the "my_last_updated" value of that anime that gets returned by http://myanimelist.net/malappinfo.php?u=username remains the same.

How to reproduce:

1) Get a user's list: http://myanimelist.net/malappinfo.php?u=username

2) Check the "my_last_updated" value of any anime (for this example let's say with ID 1887).

3) Change status to something different:

curl -u username:'password' -d data='<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><entry><status>2</status></entry>' http://myanimelist.net/api/animelist/update/1887.xml

4) Get the same user list: http://myanimelist.net/malappinfo.php?u=username

5) The "my_last_updated" value remains the same as before.

The "my_last_updated" value seems to only be changing when we provide an episode update and only if it's a different number. Is this the intended behavior?

Thank you for your time

I dunno anything about the API but I've noticed that if I, for example, change the status of an entry from "watching" to "on hold", that doesn't move it to the top of "Last Anime Updates". So I guess that's how it is supposed to work and just changing the status isn't considered an update.

@kuchitsu Both the API and the Web user interface communicate with the internal system (Server logic + Database). If there is a bug in the internal system then it's going to appear on both the API and the Web user interface. I hope that made sense. ^^

@nstratos I suppose it's intended behavior. For example, when I check Last Updated date (by clicking More link in my list), I expect to see there a date when I watched an episode last time, not when I changed a status, score, tags or whatever else.

@Akarin It's possible but unless a MAL developer answers we will never know for sure.

He won't answer. Look at hundreds other suggestion and support threads left unanswered on this forum.

@Akarin That is unfortunately very true. My original post about this was made almost a year ago and still no answer. It makes it tough for developers who want to develop anime/manga related software. At least this forum seems more active.
