I always want manga to have a captivating intense plot or it's not really worth waiting a week for updates

TBH I can't really get into manga unless the art is good. Sometimes no matter how good the plot or the actual characters are, if the art is bad then I can't really get into it.

as long as the story piqued my interest, art doesn't matter.

I prefer it if a series has nice art, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy as long as the aesthetic isn't unpleasant. For the most part, barring a few exceptions like Solanin, I don't tend to enjoy manga with a dark or bleak tone. I prefer manga that make me feel happy or excited.

It's genre and the art for me. Then I try getting a handful of chapters in, if I'm not into it then no matter how good the art is or even if it's my fav genre, I try to find another manga to kill time with.

A nice plot with some one or two psychological aspects. But if you really want to catch my attention a pretty art is indispensable.

I mostly get in for the plot and stay for the characters. Nice art is not mandatory, although I might find some art styles nice and other people may find the same styles awful since it's a matter of aesthetic preference.

do they fuck?
if so, sign me up ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

all jokes aside, if it can keep me captivated and induce emotions, i'll enjoy it

First of all, the art has to be good. In anime, I don't really care about the art. If the story is good in the anime, then the art will take a step back. However, in manga, the art has to be good, pretty.

Now, as for content: I CANNOT READ MANGA WITH A STORY!!!! When I read manga, it has to be episodic or feel episodic. Its gotta have fanservice. If possible, some wincest as well. Its gotta be funny as well.

When I read manga, its gotta be just mindless entertainment. Which is why I could never get into those top mangas we see out there.

If I want something with a story, I go for Novels, either Light Novels or Visual Novels.

I like when the art expresses something about the artist, like when you read it you go "this is definitely a [insert mangaka] manga". Something that gives life to it rather than just something bland and generic.
It also has to have a captivating story, if the story is important in anime, it's even more important in manga as it does not have the same visual cues as anime, so it has to compensate somewhere.
The pacing of each chapter should not be too lengthy but not too short either.
And the world, the world that surrounds the story, I think it's very important to make it feel like a living, breathing world rather than just a lifeless painted canvas.

I'm always on the lookout for an interesting story with great characters. I'm not that picky about the art, I just want the characters to be really strong and carry that story.

For the art:

- Distinct character designs. They don't even have to be unique to manga in general--I have no problem with bland character designs--just unique in the context of ONE manga. If I have to seriously pay attention to what each character is wearing in each scene to tell them apart, I'm gonna get annoyed. If all the characters look alike AND they're wearing identical school uniforms, I'm not going to bother reading anymore.

- In the same vein, I need to be able to tell who's speaking at any given moment. Vaguely placed speech bubbles piss me off to no end.

- Decent continuity in action scenes. It's hard with still pictures and limited panels, but if the artist knows that's what they're working with, I don't want to see vague blurs and closeups of clothing and hands unless you're going to be able to follow up with a wider picture of what's actually happening and maintain a strong sense of space.

For the story:

- Again, continuity. Just a personal preference, but I'm not a big fan of episodic anime, and it's even harder to tolerate in manga.

- Romance. Even a little goes a long way. Just give me something to ship.

- Nooooo ecchi. Even a hint of it will set me on edge and have me glaring at the page.

- Limited sexual content in general. It's fine when it's actually relevant to the story and aids in character development, but if I wanted porn I'd just go find some.

- Female protagonists. There have been some exceptions, but generally speaking I find it a lot easier to relate to female MCs.

A good story line and character development. I don't care much for the art style, to be honest.

1. Interesting first chapter/prologue. It really must draw me in right away. (I make judgments very quickly when it comes to manga, so the first chapter will almost always determine whether I will like it or not)

2. Good plot and character development.

3. Distinct and unique characters.

4. And of course, unique style of art that is MAINTAINED. (I have read far too many manga whose art quality decreased so much it became unbearable).

5. Humour is always a plus. Even in a serious manga, a decent amount of humour can go a long way.

Good art and preferably good plot. Genre too, I'm not a big fan of harems/reverse harems or romance in general (unless it's a subplot).

Well an interesting art style is usually what grabs my attention and gets me to start a series in the first place.

I continue to read the manga if the story and characters are good.

I don't quite like manga with weak protagonist, physically or emotionally. *stares hard at all generic shoujo heroines* unless they are progressing to be independent and strong over the chapters.

Comedy, especially when you have hundreds of chapters and it's obvious my eyes are gonna get tired looking at the texts.

Pretty characters and delicate art is always a bonus. And that's why I judge manga by it's art cover.
