TV show, then movies. The OVAs are a retelling of the first part of the TV show (from what I heard). the other thread gave you the motivation to start it?

OVA (Early Days) -> Movie 1, 2, 3
TV Series -> OVA (New Files)

This is wrong. The movies come after the OVA series. The TV series is an entirely different continuity.

Damn, was just talking with someone who started with the movies and regretted it. Guess my info was kinda wrong.

edit: well, you mean it's OVA then movies, and the serie is an alternate storyline? then there's no problem starting with the TV show I guess.

The original OVA generally gives a good idea of what to expect from the TV series: mostly episodic comedy/parody, some 'unusual' episodes, and a smattering of serious stories that will never truly be the heart of the show, so don't let them mislead your expectations.

All three films are somewhat different, but are overall more serious-dramatic in tone - conveyed with heavy atmosphere and talking. If you're familiar with Mamoru Oshii's films (Ghost in the Shell, Sky Crawlers, Jin-Roh, etc.,) then you should know what to expect as he headed movies 1 and 2.

The WXIII film is probably the only entry generally panned, so far as I know.

No, watch the TV series first, since that has the longest continuity. Then if you liked the TV series, watch the OVAs, but if your didn't like the series, skip to the movies (or watch them after the series).

Eh, starting with the OVA/movie timeline is a-okay and even recommend, I think, since the first and second movie are the best parts of the franchise while also needing the least amount of time-investment. The TV series is fine, though can drag for some with its tone and length.

What I do want to point out (and nobody mentioned so far yet): DEFINITELY watch the MiniPato special at some point, preferable between both timelines. It's short but absolutely worth it if you've taken a liking to the goofball crew of Patlabor.

I started with the movies and I understood everything but I didn't get any kind of introduction to the characters, and that's precisely what you find in both Early Days and the start ot the TV series. For that reason,

I'd say:

• Early Days --> Movies
• Then TV series (some introductory parts of Early Days are told differently, but the content is not the same at all) --> New Files

Hello a new decade.

I've watched it in TV back in 2002, first TV series and then the movie, and i coudn't tell the difference since Patlabor is a episodic series.
