~ Divine Gate ~

Synopsis

"When the Divine Gate opened, the living world, the heavens, and the underworld became connected, ushering an era of chaos where desires and conflict intersect. To restore order, the World Council is formed. As peace is restored, the Divine Gate becomes an urban legend.

In that world, boys and girls deemed fit by the World Council are gathered. They are ones who aim to reach the gate for their personal objectives. Those who reach the gate can remake the world.

What lies beyond the gate? When they reach the door, will the world change? Will it be the past that changes, or will it be the future?"

Divine Gate Episode 1 Thoughts

Wow. That was a really good first episode.
There was some doubt in this show as it was apparently a game adaption but with how the first episode was handled, I'm glad I stuck with my guns.

This seems like a revenge story but not a cliche one like Absolute Duo.
The story resembles when families only want males instead of females and the females are cast aside. So in Divine rich families only care about if their child has a power or not. The ones that deem incapable are cast aside.

Clearly the concept of the show is to warm Aoto's ice-cold heart after his maltreatment. If were given that in meaningful way that can make this a gem for the season.
The Powers seem to be the standard wheel of elemental powers that I don't mind. I rather have those than cop-out powers like copycat power or stealing power. That bullshit.

A surprising great start here. I wasn't expecting a lot from this one, but wow!

There's still a lot that needs to be built on about the world and how things work, but color me impressed with this.

Hibbington mirrors most of the feelings I have about it, so I don't have much else to add. :P

The show has evolved so far into two main arcs.
Finding the Divine Gate and Dealing with Aoto's twin brother.

We have had pretty good segments like the Blue Christmas and The Defilers in the last episode.
The question is how much more are these segments going to reflect the actual story.
Divine Gate in general does seem to be cognitive about what it wants to do and I'll use last episode as an example.

We opened up episode 5 with talking about the light and darkness in the world.
The episode itself seemed more about the students having fun at this "special training" camp.
The show was cognitive that it was pointless through the dialogues of the students and the instructors.

Then we met this outcast group called the Defilers to show the "darkness" of the world and that our "King" sent to be sacrificial lambs for his observations.

Thus this was a good episode as they completed both of the goals that the episode set out to do.
The main point of the episode is that the students choose to talk instead of invoke violence.
How is that going to factor into finding the gate? That is the question that needs to be answered for story progression.

Is anyone still watching this. I'm considering dropping it after that abysmal episode 7.

Yeah the show hit the shitter big time.
Dropped my score from a 6 to a 4 from that episode.
I'm going to see if it can rebound with the brother arc still.
