hmm wonder if someone else is watching ~

The show overall don't have the kind of mysteries I was expecting.

Episode 6

A little different episode featuring some secondary characters.. still always good to see more of Kougami.
I wonder how long it will take for we to see some real development on the story.

Episode 8

Seems like the random mystery somehow connected a lot of things with the sensei being actually sakurako's sensei...
It was a good episode, the end of the series might be good after all.

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru Final Thoughts

We have another classic case of a show that is affected by the hit or miss issue of their episodic nature. I've had episodes in which I've been fully engaged and others which I got skip around to just want to finish it. My favorite episode of the season was from this show and very early on in week 2. Then it was just case after case after case that just didn't really attract me. I think there were only 3 cases in the entire show that I truly cared about.

Sakurako as a character is one of my favorites from this season. She is very interesting from the beginning. Has that lost connection to interacting properly with society. Very Blunt. Very Honestly. Very Mysterious.

Shoutarou on the other hand is just an annoying nuisance going Sakurako-san! Sakurako-san! Sakurako-san! Every time she has a blunt comment about something. Shut up already...

Then none of the other characters really serve much to the show. That teacher did a little bit but everyone else is forgettable. Is it bad that when that two girls were going into psychopathic mode I was just laughing? There is something funny about psychopathic anime characters when they are blatantly in denial XD.

The ending also was pretty lackluster.
The only purpose of it was to reaffirm that they are going to do more investigations together and leave us not really interested in this mass murder Hayafusa. As much as I like Sakurako, they didn't leave me off on wanting more or interested in a second season. My final score for this show is a 5/10. It is below-average. The bones are telling me that this show will never truly live up to the potential that it had at the beginning and I wouldn't watch a second season if there was a enough other shows to check out. I also do not recommend this show to anyone other than hardcore mystery watchers that might have an interest time on a few of episodes.

It didn't occur to me until the very end just how similar this show is to Death Parade. (Don't worry, no spoilers of that here) Each one focuses primarily on the new supporting characters that come in during each arc, learning about them and their history through the eyes of two main characters, one of which is acting as an assistant to the other. Like they have a nearly identical formula, just with the specific themes and scenarios changed up.

I actually enjoyed it quite a lot, despite a lot of the criticism it's been getting. While Sakurako was definitely the most interesting character, I felt that most of the secondary and supporting characters were also relatively strong too. Heck, even the sensei who at first I greatly disliked turned out to be a very well done character during the last arc with his old students. I also feel like Shoutaro has been getting a little more flack than he deserves from most people. He wasn't just some useless push-over the whole time, actually keeping Sakurako in line and jumping into the fray when need be. Dude kicks ass and isn't getting enough credit for it.

Also the conversation they have at the end of the flashback in the last episode really hit home hard for me. It was such a powerful moment!

Granted I only watched a small handful of shows this season, but of them I'd say this is for sure the best one, only slightly behind Dance with Devils. I'd give it a strong 7/10.

Finished marathoning this a couple of hours ago :-)

I think the fascination for bones thing is pretty unique and Sakurako is a highly interesting character. Couldn´t get into the other characters too much though. However the stories were well told...bittersweet in the beginning and more and more on the psychological side towards the end.

It was on it´s way to a 7, maybe 8 before the last story with the "three sisters" but that story was so brilliant and amazingly well told that i ended up giving it a "9 minus" instead on "just" an 8.

Judging from that ending i guess a second season will come our way and i´m looking forward to it. It was a great last completion of my anime year 2015 :)

YAY! Finally someone else who really appreciates that ending! You are a God send PhKay!

Honestly the ending hit me so much harder than I was expecting, and way more than any other this season. The three sisters arc was one of the most interesting to watch unfold, and the speech Sakurako-san gave at the end of the flashback was really something. Maybe it's just me, but I reflected so much on it personally. I know I kinda already said that in my last post but it's worth saying again!!

oh cheers ^^
As far as "the ending" goes, it´s of course only good as a set up for season 2. If this does not come out, i will have to overthink my score. I was just so fascinated by the last story arc and the later episodes are what stick in most peoples minds more.

I like your comparison with Death Parade. Despite the very different settings and stories, both are first and foremost Episodical Psycologicals with a mystery-esque overarching plot that´s kept in the background until very late in the anime.

As far as the characters go, and this is also a reason for my high rating, is that my conclusion was more that Sakurako was so amazing that she kinda steals the show rather then the other characters being very bad. I have to say that i think that Shoutaro is a weakness though and i don´t think he would stand out as a character in any anime...
