Victorian, or steampunk timeline anime. Don't say black Butler. Romance would be nice, gore is good, same with fantasy and sic-fi stuff, idc, Just please let it have a darkish aspect/look. No bright colors.
All I can do is dance in the dark for those who can't hear the music.

To be honest not to many of them, the only ones i can think of are Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai ( reccomend for new anime's fans ), and Eikoku Koi Monogatari Emma ( reccomend for older anime fan's )

Turn A Gundam

Off-the-wall based on what you're looking for, sure, but worth a shot. It's a pretty significant departure from the other Gundam titles, as close as they get to shoujo. There's a really awesome dynamic between two characters who look very much alike. The romance is subtle but brilliantly executed. Contrary to what you might expect and although it's set in the far-flung future, Earth is depicted as being at a Victorian level of technology and society. The setting is reminiscent of manifest destiny America, but it still has its fair share of Ojou-sama characters.

+1 to Turn A Gundam

Also, the first anime that comes to mind when I hear the word "Steampunk":

Last Exile - You wanted a "darkish" aspect? Well Last Exile is all grey...literally...

Try Gosick, a genuine Gothic story-line.

Last exile has a steam punk vibe to it

Laputa (castle in the sky) fits perfectly as well

Its a shame there's not more as anime + steampunk is the perfect match

There are no good steampunk animes.
You could try Atelier Escha & Logy or Fractale, but they're pretty boring.
For a Victorian feel - Trinity Blood, Dantalian no Shoka, Gosick, Pandora Hearts(the manga, anime is garbage).

Oh, Galilei Donna is steampunk and Victorian, although it's kind of set in the future. It's not sci fi.
