That's the thing: she didn't wish for magical girls to never become witches - much less for magical girls to never exist - cause that would probably mean the end of the Incubators' system, and thus cause humanity never to progress without their aid. What she did wish was a way to exterminate witches [before they could manifest/affect the world, as I understand], so that magical girls wouldn't have to bear the suffering that is their witch form, and the way this wish was granted was that she became a sort of goddess/natural force/law that disappears with magical girls just as they are giving in to despair and becoming witches. Becoming such force/goddess, it's as if she never existed to anyone, except for Homura and her little brother <3 Also: you should indicate this topic contains spoilers. Also2: watch Rebellion, and try to follow it very closely, as most of this points are explained, I believe. |

| Just to add to alkchf's reply: Madoka's wish created a paradox. She couldn't take on the burden of all the magical girls' despair without becoming a witch; but her wish was to destroy all witches. Effectively, then, her wish involves destroying her witch self (which we see her do). She thus ceases to exist within the ordinary universe. However, for her wish (to destroy witches with her own hands) to be fulfilled she must continue to operate as an entity of some kind. The only way to resolve the paradox is for her to move into a different plane of existence - i.e. to become a god. |
