| Interview: Moog- Tell us more about yourself I'm a 22 year old history and political science student from Norway, and I like to drink lukewarm bean water while I listen to electronic music and procrastinate. I'm also a musician and a writer. I have plenty of other interests, but mentioning all of them would bore you to death. I have a great interest in history, politics, reading, writing, electronic music, audio engineering and music production. If I were to describe my personality in two words it would be 'curious' and 'fun-loving.' I am an inquisitive person who likes to ask difficult questions and accumulate knowledge. I'm one of those who consider studying to be a fun pastime activity. I also have a great interest in people, and I definitely consider myself to be a people’s person; a lot of my fun derives from interacting with others. Maybe this is why I find MAL interesting? It's like Cuckoo Land filled with more colourful and unique individuals than I'd ever hope to stumble across in person. I consider myself to be a fairly easygoing and open-minded person, and someone who realises that life isn't meant to be taken too seriously. There's not much more to it. I'm terrible at talking about myself. Most of the stuff you'd want to know about me is written on my profile. Give us a brief history of your time on MAL. Which sections of MAL are you the most active on? I joined MAL one late summer evening in 2013 because I was bored out of my mind, and a few friends had managed to spark my interest in anime. MAL sounded like a nice place, because organization is far from my forte, and the social part sounded interesting. It was around this time that I was getting into trouble on the previous forum that I frequented, so it was a nice time to migrate, seeing as I was banned from the other forum shortly after. Such is life. Anyway, one day I decided to finally pay the forum a little visit, and I specifically went to Casual Discussion (god forbid!). After a fair bit of browsing and frowning at the regulars there, I was repulsed by the degeneracy, so I just made a few crude remarks and left, digesting everything that I had experienced while I comforted myself with ice cream and cat videos. It wasn't until later when people started showing an interest in me via profile comments that I started getting more involved with the community, and I slowly started to tolerate the questionable quality in the forum. I soon became active in Casual Discussion, as well as in the anime sections, and I still browse them fairly regularly to this day. I also joined the Chat Club for a brief period, but I left because too much shit went on that I didn't want to be a part of. I still visit it on occasion, because there are a few guys there that I still like. It is but a shadow of its former self, however. How do you think the MAL community sees you? How do you feel about that? I'm still convinced that most people here just see me as a random weirdo that spews random bullshit. I've been called rude, hostile, inconsiderate and overly blunt, but I've also been told that I possess a bit of a wit. Most people that know me realise that a lot of the stuff that I say is tongue-in-cheek, and that there's always a tone of playfulness to my writing. I can be serious when I want to. Well, maybe not. I don't mind the way people see me. I acknowledge that I'm a bit blunt and upfront at times, and that I sometimes say inconsiderate things without thinking. I am flattered when people think that what I say is thoughtful or clever. I get along with most people, so I'm inclined to believe that most of them have a positive opinion of me. What do you feel about CD? What do you feel about the community in general? It's my go-to forum on MAL! Really, it's not all bad. The people that contribute to the toxicity of the community are the ones that keep talking shit about it all the time, and at the same time do nothing to improve it. They are lazy, salty and insincere shitposters that frown upon most things that doesn't align with their razor-thin set of beliefs. They are hoodlums, and I don't like you. I think that the community as a whole is very nice, and I mainly use it to search for interesting individuals that I inevitably decide to chat up. You'll notice that people's attitude tend to change considerably when you pull them out of the perpetual war-zone that is Casual Discussion, and that many of them actually turn out to be quite pleasant. Or maybe I'm just good at finding nice people. If you're not my friend, chances are that I probably dislike you or find you uninteresting. Uninteresting people are the worst, and I have to dig through a lot of boring dirt before I find the gems of MAL. How do you feel about how the site is run? Especially in regards to the moderators and admins. I'm using a forum that is stuck in 2007, with a bunch of moderators that follow a set of arbitrary rules that give them way too much power. I think that you can make out how I feel about that. It's the most lenient forum that I've used in a while though, so plus points for that. I like to talk shit about some of the mods but, I like a few of them actually. I don't like moderation however, and I prefer their involvement to be as minimal as possible. I want them to post as fellow members rather than moderators. Any users you like? Why? Yes, there are several users that I like, or else I wouldn't stick around. Do you want me to list them? I could do that. I'll just list the ones on the top of my head, in no particular order:
Other notable users that I have a favorable opinion of: WeebSpaceCommie, zoknimano, Korrvo, icirate, Ckan, chuuzenjis, Alarei, Aggra-Dearheart. I think that's it. Any users you dislike? Why? God, where do I begin? Lol. Honestly though, I don't even pay much attention to the ones that I dislike, so I'm probably forgetting a lot of them. I did browse CD a couple of minutes just now, and a few names came to mind:
I'm not even going to bother going into detail about these guys. They just rub me the wrong way. What are some MAL members you consider the most influential? You're not allowed to include yourself. I'm not going to mention any individual users. It's plain that the influential members are the ones that stick to groups like the Chat Club, or other places where they can gather and brew shit up. Or at least that's how it was before. I really can't think of any influential member. The slot has been open ever since that MellyJelly person left, and nobody has taken the initiative ever since. It's a state of nature now. Thomas Hobbes would not approve. Is there a MAL member you would want to take on a date or get to know better? Who and why? Sure, I guess. I'm open to most things. I'm not going to mention the interesting ones, though! Hazukashii desu and all that. Do you see yourself leaving MAL in the near future? Why? It's not something that I think about. I have friends on MAL that I enjoy talking to, and there's still some enjoyment to get out of the community, so I won't be leaving anytime soon, at least. I will leave when I get bored.
