TG selling as much as AC did in the first week of release, but still below NNT.

Sorry, correct me if i'm wrong.

AC's first week's last vol sale in 5 days = 422,688
NNT's first week's last vol sale in 6 days = 442,492
TG's first week's this vol sale in 4 days = 434,675

Seeing a seinen series sells more than the most popular shonen(exclude OP and SNK) currently is awesome indeed.

Give TG 1 more day, it's up to anyone's guess if it can exceed NNT's sale last week. 500k is not a surprising figure if it gets 2 more days IMO.

Edit: Added SNK after OP

^Correct, with the anime nearing the end and the current kickass arc in the manga, it would definitely sell more than 500k in 7 days

+Anyone know if any of the TG volumes have passed the 1 million mark?

What's the surprise about TG :P It's a given that it's gonna hell like hotcakes :3
And this is in 4 days only >.< Hope it reaches 700k. It is nice seeing a seinen sell that well though :D

What I'm most happy about is Akatsuki no Yona. In just 3 days selling 80k?! F*** YES!!! Hope it reaches the 200k. And the BDs should start selling nxt week. I hope it does fine. Happy for the mangaka and ofc for a S2 >.<!! Can't wait til the eng scans catch up too :3 More popularity for this series is needed ^^

Okay, so which one of these is more popular currently: AssClass, Tokyo Ghoul, Kurobas, Haikyuu or Nanatsu no Tazai? I really don't know

I'm waiting for SNK and OP to burst the 1 million+ bubble in two or so weeks.

Haikyuu
TG
KnB
NNT
AssClass

Why is my signature not anime-related? It's because who gives a fuck? Anyway I'd like to advertise to you this:

SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN IS FOLLOWING A SIMPLE FLOW OF THE STORYLINE. AND IT GETS REPETETIVE IF YOU VIEW IT ON ITS BIGGER PICTURE. WITH A LITTLE PLOT TWIST AND NEW IDEAS, YOU FORGOT THAT IT HAD ALREADY HAPPENED BEFORE.

Sorry, but i think it's unfair to compare 2 books(1 official, 1 limited edition) vs 1(1 official). As I am not counting the entire manga franchise sale of the week(including limited edition...art book etc). Limited edition is a rare occasion so it's an exceptional case IMO.

1 vs 1 Official volume sales is a much fairer comparison for both series. But still, 500k is within a very likely reachable range given TG had two more days, logically.

They are still the same thing. The limited edition just has something extra in it, like a ova or something else.

Or are you saying that if there were no limited edition fans wouldn't buy the normal volume? Don't forget that the people that are buying the limited edtion have to spend more money than the people that bought the normal edtion. So its pretty obvious that these people are huge fans of the series, therefore they would've bought the normal vol #13 if there weren't any limited edtion.

Do you see where I'm getting at? So yes, its a fair comparison.

Hooray! It's sold more in 3 days than Vol. 15 did in 2 weeks.
While I want S2, I am happy for the author that her series is doing so well.

+1 this was one of, if not the best show of this season.

:Re being tops means nothing to me. The anime adaptations are mediocre and the fans should be more upset that their beloved mangaka doesn't hold his work to a even slightly higher standard considering the apparent popularity.

While it's fair in your perspective, it doesn't in mine. The fact that it's a rare occasion, makes it 'special' unlike your standard weekly sales. So including that, while compares to other manga without that something special really put them into disadvantages, and thus is not a fair comparison.

By limited edition, fans have to pay extra in addition to the official volumes release. Yes, fans are provided an opportunity to pay extra, while in TG case, they have not that opportunity. Do you still think it's fair? I'm not implying fans buying limited edition instead of official volumes, cuz it's beyond ridiculous for you to even think about it in this perspective.

Yes, I acknowledge that NNT may likely be selling more in a long run. But it's out of context, this is about a first week sales discussion. And I don't think it's pointless(it may be for you but not me), cuz IIRC TG's highest record of first week sales in Oricon ranking was the 14th vol with only around 289,000(?). It didn't even break the 300k milestone.

TG:re's vol 1 first week sales was underwhelming with around 240,000(?). So, to see a huge leap like this, that skipped over an entire 200k range from last vol and basically for a seinen of all, to even be able to compare with popular shonens in sales despite its 'demographic' disadvantages, has indeed left me in awe. Hopefully more seinens will shine as bright as TG in popularity and compete with that huge excess of shonen, tho I highly doubt it'd ever happen. Sorry if I sound stubborn or immature here, English isn't my first lang. What I want to say is, I just want to see a more diverse genre aiming toward more diverse demographic audiences competing with one another in popularity, other than 'shonen', 'shonen', and 'shonen'. :)

I don't see how some people say that limited editions shouldn't be counted. If anything they have even more weight that the regular ones since they are more expensive.

Yeah that's what I meant. It's useless to compare the overall sales they had last year since all of them didn't have the same boost comparatively (NNT's anime for example had only being airing for six weeks or so).
To me, it would look more like:
  • Assclass
  • Haikyuu
  • KnB
  • NNT
  • TG

-_- you completely miss my point. Limited edtion means, normal volume+something extra In it. So fans don't by both limited and normal edition. Since the limited edtion has what the normal edition has, which is the volume. plus some extra stuff in it. If this isn't clear enough let me give you another example.

If tokyo ghoulre gets a limited edition, then sales for the normal tokyo ghoulre volume would drop. But did it actually dropped? Nope, its just that fans didn't bought the normal volume but instead bought the limited edtion. so in the end it would sell the same amount.

So limited edition is basically a special treat for fans, and it says limited for a reason since they will only have 200k to 300k copies to sell to the fans while the normal edition would have about 1 million in print.

So as I said before its a fair comparison, the limited edition doesn't bring in new fans to the series. I hope you understand now.

Thanks for clearing this up. I have always thought limited edition was a separate book just like an artbook or something similar. But it makes sense to me now that it contains all the contents from the normal edition with something extra in it. :)

EDIT:
I do apologize for my misunderstanding of the term. And I hereby acknowledge that NNT's first week sales of last vol was approximate to 500k. But as I mentioned above, there's one more thing that disrupted the fairness of the comparison between the two, which was the numbers of days of sales of each series in the ranking. With the upward trend of TG:re skyrocketing the sales in this week ranking, who know how much another two days of TG sales would make a difference between the two. So, because of the inconsistent numbers of days of sales, the comparison wasn't even fair in the first place. Only God(if there's one) know how it would turn out.
