I've been considering getting into manga recently, since I'm running short on time to watch anime. I'm just curious, how long does it usually take you to finish an average-sized manga? Also, do you marathon them, or just read a few chapters here and there?

Depends on the series.

It's definitely faster to read manga compared to watching anime, though!

Definitely this. It depends on how interesting it is/how much I want to know what happens next. I usually marathon through mine unless it's extremely long (100+ chapters) - that's when I split it up

What's an average sized manga? :o

I think how easy something is to read might depend a lot on enjoyment for some people.

To contribute to the thread: average-sized might change depending on who you ask, for me around 50 to 100 chapters is average, but other people may say that a series needs more than a hundred to develop a good story.

I would recommend starting out with completed series though, to avoid the frustration of waiting for chapters to come out and considering dropping a story because you don't know where it's going and won't be able to find out for some time.

Yeah, you have a point there.

For me, average depends on the genre/demographic. For shounen, it's typically 100+ chapters. For shoujo/BL, one volume. For seinen, 3-4 volumes. In my experience.

2ish volumes daily

Average Sized manga around 10ish volumes (?)

5ish days? =3=

Gotta love simple kindergarten math... they teach how to divide on kindegarten, rite?

Though that's when there's no "HYPE" or "meh" feeling going on.

Marathoning rarely happens but I did skipped sleep sometimes to keep reading a story cause it was engagingly interesting. Like a 7-10 volume in a go. Just gotta read in the way you feel like doing at the moment.

action stuff is a breeze. Panels are mostly incomprehensible fight scenes anyway. Romance, Drama (or anything with a lot of dialog really) take a bit longer. But compared to anime, manga is much more time effiecent. Most of the time they either take a day or two to finish.

I agree with most of the above posters. Manga is definitely easier and faster to complete.

I think I can read around 100-150 chapters per day if each chapter is around 25-30 pages long with a bit of action.

I breeze through chapters of anything that's interesting while drinking the tears of those who had to wait for each chapter to come out week in and week out.

It purely depends on the series and how much I enjoy it. If I enjoy a series less it will take longer to read but if I enjoy a series more it will be a lot faster.

I read manga at a glacial pace while anime has a set length of time, so I usually finish a thirty to forty page long chapter with almost around the same time required as a regular episode of anime.

I read fast then :)

But it really depends on how bulky the dialogue is.

About 30-40 minutes/volume, 20 for action-filled volumes. I read a little too quickly, and unfortunately I don't have time to enjoy manga. D:

I usually like to read chapters volume by volume now. I used to marathon manga series, but it would usually burn me out. Burnt out to the point that I wouldn't wanna read anything for like 2 weeks. Be it physical or digital manga this is how I digest reading easiest + variety keeps me reading. I find it's a lot less overwhelming.

And I usually spend about 30m per volume.

It relly depends on the manga, is it Planetes with 27 chapters or trying to get up to date with Hajime no Ippo's 1088 chapters? I always keep to one manga at a time, not counting the ongoing series with a one chapter release/week or month (Shingeki, One piece etc.).

At the moment I'm trying to catch up with Hajime no Ippo and I'm enjoying it though I'm only almost 200 chapters in after three weeks or something like that; how much I read depends on how much I have to do during the day, my mood and so on.

So, to sum it up, I don't have a special time frame as to when I have to finish a manga, if you read it just so that you can finish it will not be an enjoyable read; personally, when I find a good manga that's finished, and when I have finished it I almost get sad that I couldn't get to enjoy the characters a little bit more.

It's all about enjoying the ride and in the end you will reach the goal by doing so, find a pace that you like and stick with it. Personally I'm trying to read 10-15 chapters a day but it can end with only 0 chapters or 30 depending on the day.

It feels like my post was a big rant but well., that's that.

Took me 2 days to read All You Need is Kill (2 volumes). That's probably pretty slow, but there's a lot of text and I read manga in Japanese, so I don't know if that's helpful information.

English manga will definitely be faster. I read "Brody's Ghost" by Mark Crilley in like an hour per volume.

Normally I finish a volume per day when I'm into a manga, and it takes me about five hours to do it. I definitely prefer reading volume-by-volume.

Well, it depends. If you are reading something like HxH, feng shen ji, etc (baloons, baloons and more baloons) is obviously longer than naruto or fairy tail (let's fight that, let's fight this).
I prefer reading manga with 50+ chapters because these develop better the story. I can usually read a 50 chapter manga in one day. But i'm a fast reader and i usually read in english (not my first language)

it depends on how long each chapter is, and how much text is in each page. Averagely I can read one chapter in ~3 minutes plus or minus 2 minutes depending on how I am feeling at the time.

~1 hours per volume sometimes more, it all depends on the amount of text and how good the art is, if it's really good I like to spend a lot of time looking at every detail. Also I usually read one or two volumes a day.
But sometimes I get enough of one series and then I switch to something else so it can take months to finish a manga.

I don't get those who read really fast, when I do that I end up enjoining it waaay less, maybe missing some details and easily forgetting what happened.

I have that too. I used to marathon manga too, but I don't like it anymore. It's getting bored and really want me to finish the manga, but I like it less because i want it so much. Now I read different mangas and I really like that more, because of the variation.
