Okay, so first of all... I'm pretty sure there hasn't been any topic like this one, well, there are couple of award related topics, but most of them are simple listings. This is not a listing a thread.

Get to the point, I have some question regarding awarded anime to you all;

  1. Do you think award can be used as a qualifier of quality of an anime? I ever said about how Spirited Away got an oscar, and I got this as a reply:

    SomeoneFromMAL said:
Only a true asshole would use oscars as a qualifier for quality.

I change the name cos privacy. What do you think about my statement, and its reply?

  2. When an awarded anime turns out to be not in your favour, what do you think of it? Do you simply think, "Oh, maybe I just can't see the good of this.", or do you think, "Wtf? This kind of turd got an award? Humanity is downgrading!"

  3. This question seems to be the same with the 2nd. When you see an anime, and it turns out to be not in your favour, then someone tells you that it received an award, what will be your opinion? Will it be, "I see, but I just can't enjoy it." or, "That's bullshit. It's bad, so it's meaningless."

Well, that's all I guess. Have fun discussing.
HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

Spirited Away got put on a list of movies that everyone should watch by the age of 14 or something like that. I thought it was terrible, but I can see why people like it.

However, as rude of a statement that was, the guy has a point. Don't use oscars or any reward to justify why you think a show or movie or whatever is good.

I dunno, if an anime gets several awards i might check it out, but using things such as popularity as qualifier of an anime makes me cringe

This, although if people deem it highly, I do try harder to see how good it is if I didn't like it.

Also, awards specifically in Japan are sometimes super sketch.

Rewards dont mean anything to be fair.
It all comes down to preference anyway.

I really liked Spirited Away actually, great visuals, story not that good, but enjoyable.

For example; Avatar - won a lot of prices for it's visual aspects, but I didnt think it was all that great, not to mention the acting ...
