Well I'm confused haha . I read that this is a sequel to the ova but the ova starts in the middle of the manga? So will I not understand a lot if I watch this by it self ?

This whole series butchers the manga to be quite honest. The prequel OVA's start a year and a half into the manga. The manga doesn't do all the flashbacks it's just a straight timeline. I don't know why they half assed an amazing story like they did.
I am very disappointed they skipped as much content as they did I mean how can you tell a story that spans 10 years in 14 episodes.
The manga is a long 260+ chapters and took me about a full day to read all of it but trust me when I say I am glad I read it before watching this disappointing anime version.

I went in blindly when I watched this series.

I'm going to base my response simply on is the manga vital to the story because my opinion of pretty much all the characters and plot changed because of the manga.

The anime skips way too many things and will make you misjudge and hate certain characters simply to how they present it. I would be fine if that was really how it was (a little angst is fine), but the manga really is superior.

12 episodes for 260+chapters of an amazingly beautiful story is just not enough.
If it means anything, It took me about a whole entire free day to read this and I didn't feel like it got drawn out or anything.

Just words of advice just in case you watch this; take a look at at the manga b4 or after.

Is manga finished? I always thought anime didn't do it justice and I wanted to enjoy story for what it really was, but I don't want to start if it is unfinished.

Yea, manga is finished and its a lot better than anime.
While anime is pretty good adaptation of the Tokyo arc, it does skip quite a lot and change some stuff.
As Lt_Spinzaku said, since anime skip a lot you misjudge or hate some characters, or you dont even see some characters. Story and relationships are much deeper in manga so i recommend it for full experience.

Hmmm, this show could go for 50 episodes with no problem. Probably more.
It seems they decided to make this anime just so they can fill the airing schedule. The animation quality dropped a lot compared it to OVA.

The whole story breaks up broadly into two parts; the events leading up to the MC getting together with his destined lover, and then what happens after. The anime covers the first part as best it can in 12 episodes (plus an ova or two). If the second part were to be made into an anime, the pacing would be very different from the first part and I don't think it would work; it would be much more like a slice of life than a romance anime.
