I've heard a lot of women describe moe as sexist. Jesuotaku called moe characters nothing but, "cute pets you can stick your dick in". A lot of people really question the claim that moe isn't sexual at all. I agree with that, you're in denial if you don't see sexaulity in moe anime. And I can see where they're comming from. They're idea of cute is making these girls as silly and childlike as possible. In fact, I've actually see a lot where the highlight "cute scene" was the girl impersonating a dog. People claim it objectifies women as "cute little possessions"... no different from the plastic models these anime were meant to sell... Now, this isn't my opinion, and if it's true, then I don't care. I'll still watch moe even if it is sexist, why? Cause it's cute funny and I love it. Now as for magical girlfriend... I can really, really see where they're coming from here. Granted I've seen only chobits... but I can see how this is sexist kind of. It does portray the "ideal woman" as naive, innocent, submissive, perfect, and totally obediant. Even if not all of this genre is sexist, I will agree that anime like this is more sexist than anime that objectifies women sexuality. Fanservice anime like rosario+vampire only objectify the womans body. This objectifies her place in life. However, in defense, there are magical girlfriend anime that aren't all sexist. Chobits wasn't really sexist, it just wanted to show off chi's epic cuteness. She was a robot mind you. And was not an "ideal woman" at all. So when you think about it, she was more a massive display of cuteness, rather than a feminine stereotype exploited. But I can't say anything being a male. Many women love this genre. There are heterosexual female moe fans, and magical girlfriend fans. They woulnd't make shoujo magical girlfriend anime if there weren't. If straight women can like yuri, then anythings possible. Basically, I'm a dude, and I can't call anything sexist. I'd need a female opinion. |

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR MAHOU SHOUJO & IMOUTO NOW! Well there kinda is equality in that.. I mean think about it. Does the anime "Free" objectify men because it's a moe fanservice show meant for females to watch? I mean, I'm not calling any anime sexist yet... what are some examples of anime you feel are sexist |

Maybe if it was their only trait, but Moe characters often have a lot more going for them than that. Any character with their only real trait being "attractive" is obviously just going to be seen as something you can have your way with. They aren't Princess Peach. |

What sense does it make for a bunch of dudes to discuss something that negatively effects women, and not men. Not talking about moe, there, because I frankly don't give a shit, but I think that adopting that type of attitude ("It doesn't concern nor affect me directly, so I have no possible reason to care") is problematic while discussing any issue, be it related to gender, race, politics, environment or any other subject. Everything is more or less connected, and to get back to what you were saying, you might not be a woman, but they still make for 50% of the world's population with which you most likely interact on a daily basis. So there's a chance problems affecting them might be affecting you in other ways you're not necessarily aware of. If we broaden the discussion to "gender and its representation" without solely focusing on either men or women, then you may realize that there are issues to be discussed on both sides. Also Princess Peach is dope. Unbeatable when I choose her in SSBM. |
